Greed as in people that abondon all morals for material and money.
If someone is both they will continue to live with only one of those.

I’m not a leftist, but greed. Much of the worst excesses of religion are caused by individuals seeking power, wealth, and influence through climbing the heirarchy of religious organizations. Without the greed motive, you knock out maybe a third of the problems of religious extremism, too.
