I’d buy that for a dollar
I’ve mentioned this before but not only is he resurrected so he can continue to work, but he’s property now.
Also, Murphy’s lack of agency due to this status was further exploited in the movie by scabbing a strike.
All this (satirically) suggests that, were death itself available as slavery and union-busting loophole, someone would exploit it given the chance.
I can forgive union busting when it’s police. They have zero solidarity with the rest of the working class.
It’s almost like there’s a connection to be drawn here
That they’re class traitors who serve the interests of capital?
Does ACAB apply to RoboCop?
its difficult, i haven’t reallyconsidered it, but given that Robocop is a satire the rules may in my opinion be bent.
the detroit police are blue collar workers employed by the comically corrupt and incompetent OCP corporation, which directly funds the cartoon criminal gangs that terrorize the police and citizenry of the city. Robocop is a completely unethical experiment intended to replace human workers with automated undead slaves, but his commitment to duty is too strong and he actively battles the unfettered capitalist organizations that seek to control or destroy him.
I agree. Murphy’s humanity is what sets him apart from the wishes of OCP, and is ultimately what saves the day.
To me, the whole ACAB thing implies that people have agency and can make moral and ethical choices on the job. Yet we see police do unethical and amoral things given the chance. Murphy is unable to deviate from his programming, yet in the grey areas where he can make a choice, tends to make the right one.
Twice the capacity for violence, the same qualified immunity so… Yes.
Probably no, at least dude doesn’t care about race, he apply police brutality the same for everyone.
No, but he’s also a fictional character.
Jesus christ just fuck off with the ACRAP already.
Some body has a bad day.
Yea but he felt a duty to do his job and liked doing it. Most of us would be those failed experiments that immediately merc ourselves once turned back on.
I liked the one that shot the dickhead scientist.
RoboCop 2?
Do you like your job? They’re probably just simulating you because you outperform LLMs.
“Dead or alive you’re clocking in” - High School Drop out manager.
Mickey 17 (2025) is a movie about just that
Is that movie any good?
Good movie, lots of plot points they start but don’t finish IMO. Also some things that go unexplained by the end of the movie. I’d say it’s worth a rental or opening your sails…
I’ll give it a go this weekend
It’s OK.
I read the book first which is better, but they did a good job with the movie, and I actually really like what they did with Mark Ruffalo’s character.
The first half is quicker paced than the second half, but it’s a fun movie.
If you find the premise of the movie enticing, give it a go. Everybody’s tastes are different, what if that random stranger is as wrong as half the critics?
I’ve often found highly rated media boring and low rated media entertaining. And the opposite of course. And in between, right down the middle - A real “meh”-fest. Those are the worst, not even bad or dumb enough to be entertaining. Like “The Core” (2003). It’s so dumb, highly entertaining.
I’ll give it a go this weekend
Not really according to the Drinker.
He is a right wing nut job. His opinion on anything holds little weight.
Fuck The Critical Drinker.
Him saying a film is bad should be enough to go and watch it.
At least he liked his job.
“you are supposed to die in the vicinity of retirement, please and thank you” - capitalism
Ok but hear me out, those are not the same DSLs.
LOL and true
Yeah… I’m glad that I can quit a shitty job, at least!
This is why you never volunteer for anything!
If skynet isn’t a thing by then, I sure am going to start it.
