      Yep, it felt like a novelty. Even libraries were like “Hey, you should check out this whole “internet” thing. It’s pretty rad!”

      Duck duck go has been my replacement.

      I only use Google for maps when I’m looking for food or hotel stays.

        I’ve been using DDG for a few years, but I don’t like that it’s not subject to any strong privacy regulations like GDPR I’ve looked at startpage but I hate how it doesn’t let you see your search history in your browser history. Qwant forces you to diable your adblocker. Does anyone know of any good alternative?

          Kagi is paid and has a small usage free tier. If you don’t pay for what you use, you’re the product.
