Visited Shanghai in 2019 on my way home from Tokyo and I would concur with this. It was “the city of the future” we all saw in concept art, minus the hover cars (they had lots of helicopters tho).
It’s a real shame that Great Chinese Firewall separated off communication and fueled distrust with Chinese and Western citizens. Our governments and businesses may butt heads over a tonne of things, but there is a lot of tech and lifestyle stuff I would love to import from there, and I have many friends in Shanghai that think the same of our lifestyles in Europe. Too bad collaboration is close to impossible at this point.
I think Shanghai/China fits it even better. The convenience and technological advances are moving crazy fast.
