I don’t support mass deportations but I understand why people do. Id prefer amnesty (especially for children and families who have been here for years) followed by eased legal immigration processes to make it easier to come here legally.

What bothers me recently though isn’t mass deportations themselves, it’s the way they are being done. Unmarked officers, no oversight, sketchy warrants that prey on people’s lack of knowledge of their rights, strong arming local organizations and governments to hand over info, punishing people who are trying to fix their status or lost it on a technicality, etc.

I have a Google container and a Facebook container to somewhat segment those accounts from everything else (obviously they’re both sophisticated enough that it doesn’t limit tracking much. But it’s something).

It does make Google login a bit awkward if I try to log in from a nom-google container though unfortunately. I usually have to reopen in the Google one.

And I have one for my work accounts when I need to check work email from my personal PC. I don’t want to accidentally log in to that account casually.

There’s always a chance they like/need you enough to give you a heads up on the test so you can have a chance to pass it.

I use it to (semi) automate bit repetitive tasks. Like adding a bulk set of getters, generating string maps to my types, adding handlers for each enum type, etc. Basic stuff, but nice to save keystrokes (it’s all auto complete).

Anything more complex though and I spend more time debugging than I saved. It’s hallucinated believable API calls way too often and wasted too much of my time.

Most of the ones on Amazon aren’t trustworthy. Especially at high capacities. But apparently you can get up to 2TB now, at least in theory. I imagine the support for them is pretty limited though still.

I’m not sure on the rules/general use but my ear agrees with this. As soon as you put an “and” between them nearly any order seems totally normal.

Check a sample ballot so you know what races are up for a vote. Don’t let the first time you see a candidate be at the voting location.

My government publishes a booklet of candidate statements and details of ballot measures that gets sent out to all voters. Candidates can lie in their statements so don’t trust the ones who sound agreeable, but I can usually rule out more than a few based on them strongly supporting issues I’m against. This lets me rule out the worst choices for me and focus my research on a smaller set of candidates/races where the choice isn’t as obvious. Check candidate websites for a similar statement. Focus on ruling out people you strongly disagree with. Bookmark the ones that need more digging.

Then I tend to check voter guides published by news organizations and charities with a similar lean as me. I don’t follow them directly, but they give me a sense of who people with similar leanings support. This has helped me discover some candidates who were directly misleading in their statements and didn’t have the support of the people they claim agree with them. If any names in the voting guide surprise you, dig deeper on them.

Party affiliation is unfortunately meaningful in federal elections, and many top level state elections as well, but avoid voting straight ticket based on party. There are often local elections where party affiliation isn’t as important. It may matter if my governer is Red or Blue ,but it probably matters less what my Coroner is (…I’ll admit though that my feelings on this are changing in recent years. I’m still against straight ticket voting because it’s important to check each race individually.) Try to find a basic 2 sentence or so description of each position that’s up for election so you know what kind of power that position has. That will help you judge if a candidate’s stances on certain issues matter for their position. It’s great that my Coroner supports X but that’s irrelevant to their job so I won’t factor it in.

Finally I make sure to read the long form of every ballot measure or amendment. The short version almost always sounds appealing but often the long form uncovers really important nuances. Never just vote based on the short form, it’s way too easy to sneak in really terrible policies by constructing an agreeable tagline.

I think it might depend on if the person mooning is moving toward the victim and if the victim is “in range” of…the butt.

If someone was backing that (bare) ass up on me I’d definitely feel threatened, or if they moon me so close that they might spray me.

It seems like incels, or at least Tate-holes, treat every conversation as a challenge with the reward being sex.

Just be friends with people. Who fucking cares if you end up in a romantic relationship, allow yourself to form close intimate friendships that aren’t physical.

Go outside. Not in a “go touch grass” way. Explore new places and fill your days with variety and sunlight if you can. If you can’t make the time pass quickly you can at least make it more interesting. And sitting depressed in a park is a lot nicer than sitting depressed at home.

If you’re already running, vary your route a bit, or spend some time in the middle of your run sitting outside for a bit.

I don’t expect it to fix anything, I’ve heard enough of the “just try this and you’ll feel better” bullshit. But I hope it would at least help mix up your days a little.

It really isnt bad. I do most of my computer at home so I really only need a small cloud box to pipe things through when needed.

And I could reduce the B2 price a lot with some deduping of my data, but that’s an ongoing and painfully slow process since I was too reckless with my local backups in the past, so $7 to avoid that process is worth it.

And for electric I suspect it’s pretty low. I’m running 3 raspberry pi, a 4 bay NAS, and one micro PC and I live in an area with pretty cheap electric already. I think my gaming machine probably takes more power in a few hours than the rest of the system does in a day.

I largely run raspberry pis so my electric costs are likely minimal (I’ve never calculated it). Besides that:

How long are folks planning to wait before migrating to something new? I suspect this is still safe for at least a few months before things fall out of date, right?

A small company like that likely won’t have policies and processes to fall back on. This can be good for some things, but when things go bad it can backfire.

Mainly for things like promotions, HR, complaints, etc. In big companies there’s a formal process for how to get promoted and what’s expected at each level, etc. Same for HR complaints. At a small company you’re going to be more subject to the whims of whoever is in charge.

Same for new projects. In a big company you have red tape and processes to blame when something fails, but in a small company it’ll be more likely to be “your fault”.

We had this challenge with my grandmother. I had some really memorable moments with her late in her life, but she looked a lot sicker and run down in any pictures from that time, but that’s how I remember her (at least that’s part of how I remember her). My mom didn’t want to share as many pictures from that phase of her mom’s life though because she remembered her younger and more active, so it made putting a memories collage together complicated. Especially since all the early pictures were still in albums spread across the country with her children.

Personally I want people to use pictures of me that let them remember me the best. Not the best of me, but the best of our relationship, even if that’s me as an ugly old fart.

That’s amazing, I’m glad your coworker was able to find someone and get to be a parent.

I’m sorry if I came across as advocating against surrogacy. I don’t nearly know enough to have that strong of an opinion on it in either direction. All I wanted to get across was that making sure there’s no coercion is hard. Not impossible, but hard. There were some really sweeping statements under this post that felt like they were oversimplifications and I wanted to consider the nuance.

Separate from any discussion about surrogacy, that’s fucked and our adoption system should be way more accepting of gay couples than it is. There’s no reason it should be so hard.

Absolutely! And more to cover other expenses like maternity clothing, any comfort items to manage the pregnancy, additional dietary needs, and probably some more to help account for how traumatic a pregnancy can be and the body changes it causes.

I’m absolutely not advocating that a surrogate shouldn’t get paid. Just that it’s hard to separate payment from coercion in even the best situations.
