It’s definitely odd at a minimum.

and a majority in Congress
Democrats do not have a super majority, which is a problem thanks to the fillabuster. So the only branch of government the democrats have is the executive, which is not enough to fix things.
Not sure. But my partner and I have an out, we will probably move to their home country and start a new life there if need be. It’s kind of hard to determine when the right time to leave is.
Then you have to ask “are my non-US accounts able to be shut down/frozen by the IRS/US?”
The answer is probably no, but not always.
There are edge cases where you still need to pay/file taxes.
Anyway, out come the pitchforks and 50 replies telling you your feelings are invalid and you’re wrong. And should die in a fire.
Are those replies in the room with us? Where is the reply saying they should die in a fire?
I don’t think there is such a thing. Aside from obviously credible things like “the CIA did X thing Y years ago”, conspiracy theories are generally not harmlessly even if they’re the flat earth kind.
I’ve seen interviews of flat earthers who say their family has cut them off because of their conspiracies. It can become such a huge part of them, that they can’t help but push it on their friends and families. It drives them crazy, so they cut off said conspiracy theorist from their lives.
And there is also the part that belief in conspiracy theories lowers your standard for evidence, makes you paranoid and stubborn, all of which makes you prone to other conspiracy theories.
I’ve seen much of this with my own mom. She first started believing the covid vaccines were bad, now she believes Bill Gates & George Soros are trying to depopulate the earth. And nowadays it has lead to her acting like fluoridated water and toothpaste is cyanide. Once you have your foot in the door, every other more dangerous conspiracy theory becomes more palatable.
Should’ve been Terry Davis.
If somebody gets access to your system, they could use that to blackmail you, and/or frame you for distributing said media.
“Give us $X, or we leak and distribute Y media on your behalf, and you will get sued by the corporate goons for shit loads of money”
The only real solution is to completely overhaul IP law, and/or nationalizing funding for the arts. If we’re gonna keep corps that own/produce media, then they should have a very short and limited amount of time to distribute it before it becomes common property of the people.
These two options are only symptoms. The actual problem is systematic, a result of a FPTP electoral college, capitalism, basically non existent anti-corruption mechanisms, etc.
Even if we scrape by and avoid the wannabe dictator this time, we’re just going to be in the same situation next time unless we fix these inherent problems.
Revolution more often than not results in authoritarianism, and is therefore just as hopeless.
It’s not like we wouldn’t use other ones if the area suddenly became unusable. Sure, it would be expensive. But hardly a need.
Not looking to be antagonizing, as you’re correct those are the reasons. But it should be said that they are stupid reasons. We should be weaning off oil as quickly as possible. The second point is in a lot of ways a hindrance, as shipping zones means shipping away manufacturing jobs.
And none of that is worth the price of war, or supporting genocide.
it’s been a conflict for 70 years.
Oh well in that case it’s ok for Isreal to bomb women and children.
and the palestinian government is no saint either
This is a whataboutism.
Bombing women and children en masse doesn’t make it a conflict, it makes it a slaughter.
They’re intentionally preventing food and water from entering Gaza. It’s a genocide.
Our planet becoming uninhabitable/nearly uninhabitable with millions if not billions of people dying seems like a bigger problem. But then again spreading hate about the LGBTQ+ is more important to the spokesperson for ‘god’.
If your foot isn’t cleaned well, it can get infected and potentially cause sepsis, which is very dangerous. Should we be removing children’s feet?
No, obviously not. The time for invasive, nonconsentual medical intervention is when it is medically necessary, and circumcision does not fit the bill.
“The CPS does not recommend the routine circumcision of every newborn male.”
“It is shown that the foreskin is more sensitive than the uncircumcised glans mucosa, which means that after circumcision genital sensitivity is lost.” - Meaning circumcision is quite a damaging procedure, which means the justification for it must be high. And as a preventive measure for which the things being prevented won’t happen for a decade and a half or longer, isn’t justified.
If the foreskin isn’t cleaned well (challenging for toddlers)
Newborns should not have their foreskin pulled back for cleaning, as the separation can cause damage. IIRC it’s only a bit before puberty that it is safe to gently (not forcibly) pull back the foreskin.
Don’t Be a Sucker

This is an anti-fascism film made by the U.S. in the 1940s. It pretty much focuses on answering your exact question. It’s a decent film too.
