I’m so confused by how Reddit is being moderated now. I had someone follow me to various subreddits, responding to every comment I made with a particular anti trans slur, (the one that rhymes with “moon”, not sure if I’m allowed to say it here) and a demand that I join the “41 percent” (which basically means “kill yourself.”) I reported their account, just once, and it was the first time I’d ever reported anyone. A few hours later, I was permanently banned for “abusing the report button”. I tried making another account and was instantly banned. The accounts of other people in my household have also been permanently banned, which is the most confusing part of all of it.
The account that was harassing me is still up as far as I’m aware. So, apparently it’s fine to call people slurs and tell them to die, but they’re not allowed to complain about it.
So, I’m new to this place. I was told it was better.
Yep, my first account was made on the wrong instance and I was like “wtf is wrong with everyone here? Like I get corporations fuckin’ suck, but communism???”
They’re also HUGE babies and will claim -ism, -phobia, etc. by stretching the littlest thing.
I almost made my first account on Lemmygrad because I love puns and didn’t know that they were ACTUAL tankies.
Thankfully, I found out in time and made my first one on the also politically sus but in a different way .world 😄
I made mine on lemmy.ml because my app instructed me to “choose an instance,” so I did. I didn’t know all these instances had cultures or whatever.
Could have been worse, such as explodingheads, or its less funny named successor.
I’ve never tried to get an account on
.world
, what are their politics like? It’s such a big tent that there really isn’t any prevailing culture. Some people just like to shit on it because it’s the largest instance.
You’re right and you’re not: like the Democratic Party, it’s a big tent encompassing multitudes.
But also like the Democratic Party, the leadership aka mods and admins (as well as the political communities) is thoroughly dominated by Neoliberals with tendencies towards authoritarianism and prizing negative peace over justified tension.
It’s not even actual communism either, but more like tankie-ism. Stalin’s USSR and Mao’s China weren’t communist either, but more like dictatorships / autocracies dressed up with ‘communist principles.’ But I digress, maybe.
Communism is great, on paper. In reality type b personality disorders exist and those people will corrupt any system we come up with.
