I’m going to say Win8 & 8.1.

Say what you will about the UI, they did great work on the underlying kernel, file system and APIs. If they’d continued to refine it, it’d be damn near perfect.

They really started to lose the plot with 10; it kept a lot of what made 8 good (and steals a lot of goodwill from 8) but you can see the adware and telemetry start to creep in.

The next best I’d have to give to Vista, which also did some much needed revitalization, only to see 7 get the glory because Microsoft flubbed the hardware requirements and vendors were sloppy with drivers.

My favourite is NT3.5: full microkernel, no GDI in kernel space, no printer drivers in the kernel, less registry issues. We’d have skipped a lot of pain from the 90s and 2000s had Microsoft not went backwards with 9x and NT4.

NT 3.5 was the last version I’d consider “good” without reservation.

Biden doesn’t really have a good path either way, and Netanyahu knows it.

If he goes too easy on Bibi, he loses support and Netanyahu gets Trump, which is great for Netanyahu. If Biden goes too hard on him, the same thing happens. It makes sense when we realize that Netanyahu’s goal is to get Trump I’m office so that both he and Trump can stay out of prison.

What Biden is doing is probably the least bad option, and if he wins Netanyahu’s toast.

I’ll put this back to you this way: is Likud also a terrorist organization? Is the IDF? Because they do a lot of the same stuff.

There are definitely terrorists associated with Hamas, and Hamas definitely carries water for them, but they’re also the duly elected government in Gaza and if I were Israel I’d be asking why Gazans feel like they were so wronged that the only option seems to be a political movement that’s sympathetic to terrorist tactics.

Saying “they’re terrorists” without acknowledging how we got here is a lot like calling the ANC in South Africa “terrorist” in the 1980s. It’s stupidly reductionist and ignores complexity for the sake of jingoism.

Trump and his team realized that outrage fatigue is a thing: fuck up daily and with such magnitude that being a corrupt fuckup becomes a non-story and then you can get away with anything.

Steve Bannon even had a term for it: “flood the zone”.

He’s put a target on the collective back of the entire Jewish diaspora, just to save his own political skin.

It’s like we learned nothing from the 20th century: every time the rich get too greedy, they’ll gleefully fertilize the fields of fascism before they’ll accept making less money.

Every right wing party, in every western democracy, is either benefitting from Russian agitprop, if not taking Russian money directly.

Every. Single. One.

This is what the State is afraid of: not that people will protest Israel’s actions, but that the left might organize trans-nationally and demand better from their governments.

They’ve been happy to let the political Right metastatize because at least fascism can be good for business, but they’re terrified of the rest of us realizing the we have the numbers and that the rich need us more than we need them.

They had a narrow escape in 2008 and spent the last decade and a bit stoking culture wars. The last thing the west wants is it’s own Arab Spring.
