  • Base 10/100 is inferior to 12/60 when it comes to splitting.

10 can only be divided by 10,5,2, and 1. 100 only adds 4, 25, and 50 to that.

    12 is divisible by 12,6,4,3,2, and 1. 60 adds 5,10,15,20, and 30.

What is time other than measuring the movements of circles and spheres? The rotation of the earth, the revolution around the sun. It makes sense for us to use the same basic 12/60/360 tools we use for circles, degrees. The “metric” measurement of circles is radians, which would require factoring pi into our measurement of time, and that would be way more complicated.

  • Active communities, period.

Reddit started out without subreddits. Eventually grew too big for that so split into topical channels. Then the channel would get too big and a niche would subdivide out. When Lemmy started, or more so when there was the first big exodus from Reddit, all of that was recreated, but without the users. So we have a ton of dead communities that really need to be rolled up and cleaned up.

  • I’ve seen a few classic cars retro fitted with Tesla batteries and engines from junkyard teslas. A common thread in that space is that you don’t get high speed charging. There weren’t really alternatives to super chargers at that time, so maybe they can use the other high speed chargers these days. Anyway, that’s tells me it’s possible, but that’s an extreme end of it. Just removing software probably requires a lot of specialized knowledge.

  • A big plus one to ambiguous switches. Two things I didn’t see already mentioned:

First: if you have content that requires horizontal scrolling, like a big table or report, that horizontal scroll bar needs to be on the screen, not at the bottom of the report. I shouldn’t have to scroll hundreds of rows vertically in order to be able to scroll horizontally. While we’re at it, column headers need to stay on screen when you scroll vertically past them.

Second: if there are two choices, identifying which is active needs to be more than just changing the color. Outline that shit or add a halo, throb, or something. Sometimes a user depends on tabbing and not using a pointing device or touch screen, especially when using assistive technology. This is especially heinous when the content is consumed on a tv using a remote control, such as a streaming service or DVD menu.

  • A good PT will make “chiropractic adjustments” when it’s in the patients best interest. They will also recommend surgery or refer to an MD if drugs will help. Chiropractors will almost never do these things because they make money treating, not curing. If it’s been years, and you’re still seeing them, what have they cured?

I suffered with what turned out to be a near-herniated disc for years. Tried chiro, tried PT. The difference was the PT kept track of progression, and as soon as I couldn’t progress, sent me for imaging, saw the bulging disc and referred me to a specialist. After a year total of PT, steroid injection, ablative surgery, and recover; I went from being unable to bend down and pick up a sock to doing karate classes with my kid.

Chiro has its place in a treatment plan, it shouldn’t be the only part of a plan.

  • IMO Android is worse unless you really tinker with it. Most people don’t even know how to side load an app, much less root and degoogle. Many people don’t know to buy carrier unlocked phones or can’t afford to. The last android I used had several carrier apps forced onto it, unable to be removed, including apps I refuse to use like Facebook, which I’m sure the carrier got a kickback to force on us. Then the carrier decided no more updates despite the manufacturer releasing more major updates.

Most people just don’t know or care enough to do what should be done with an android phone. They just want a device to call and text on that can also crush candy or whatever other distraction they prefer.
