That’s not the point they’re making at all.
The point is when a website password breeds needs to be changed, then it won’t conform to the system anymore. Now you need to make a new system, or remember this particular exception.
I had a system with a number in it. Any time a password change was needed then I would add 1 to the number. I might have to try two or the times to get the password right if I’ve changed it for the third time.
I haven’t found any. Anything of that sort would need heavy handed and laborious moderation and would lend itself to quite a lot of bias from moderators. Your best bet is to do this sort of thing locally with a small group of friends (or internet friends).
I was late to the party. The only acronym I ever used was SC2.
This is about the best answer that can be expected for such a vague plea for help.
I’ve done the video game addiction thing myself. Path of Exile…the game was good. Using it for unhealthy coping was not good.
Basically I would agree. The only thing you can change is yourself. Work on yourself. Dodge the second arrow.
Every day I discover a new creative way that humans are messed up.
Understandable. I went to New York expecting it to be an urban hell. People in Manhattan were more pleasant and friendly than London. I guess the short term visitor experience will also be very different.
Which app are you using?
Where did you visit in the UK?
Because I live here and I disagree. If it was London (as it usually is) then I’m really going to laugh.
1+2=3
There’s no place for a number 1. If you’re not going to shit, then you’re not allowed to pee either.
This question is way above Lemmy’s pay grade. I hope your situation gets better. People are right in saying that if self-help fails then it’s time to give professional help another chance if that’s accessible for you.
I do listen to a lot of podcasts and have recently heard something relevant from an expert in the field:
The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos: How to Find Your Purpose
Episode webpage: https://omny.fm/shows/the-happiness-lab-with-dr-laurie-santos/how-to-find-your-purpose
Your post history also indicates that you’re routinely steeped in the worst doom news that social media serves up. It seems like it would be worth taking a break from consuming this material and find alternative ways to spend your time.
Same.
Although I like to recommend RSS. 'Social " media is overrated. If people are looking for content them just subscribe directly to the source.
I’m in the same position as you. I haven’t found a good solution. I just keep blocking each individual community when I come across it in the feed.
Lemmy seems to have a very strong voice for pushing people towards Linux… But I don’t hear nearly enough about ditching Google and other mega-corps. I started Degoogling long ago and have been really happy with the result. There are lots of alternatives and there’s no reason to stick with Google the way people do. Your description of half-baked shitty products is their hallmark. Their bloody search doesn’t even work well anymore and that’s what the whole business got launched on.
Lemmy please strongly considering De-googling. It’s quite easy for almost all services.
Wife approval factor
My wife won’t use it if she can’t see an app for it to click on to start using immediately. Going through browsers is not an option. Not having a dedicated app on the LG TV is not an option. Not being able to find something instantly means instant rejection. She refused Plex, but now sometimes uses it and has learnt to find subtitles, etc by herself.
I don’t touch my self hosted apps. If something doesn’t behave properly on the first attempt then it gets rejected from our household. It’s only for us enthusiast nerds to put up with kanky UI and setup issues for the sake of superior functionality. Normie’s won’t tolerate it.
I do this with the Boost for Lemmy app on Android and it works great.
“Good, because I am one”
Been with MailBox.org for ages and it’s been absolutely fantastic. Proton had very limited offerings at the time, but even now I haven’t felt the need to move.
I think the most basic email offering is €1/month.
Talk radio station. Starts at low volume and builds up slowly. Calm voices are the most relaxed sound to wake up to. Tried all sorts of other sounds and they’re all too abrasive to wake up to.
