I’m wondering if advertisers are starting to notice - that’s the only thing that’ll make these fuckers try to clean house. It’s maybe two years since I left reddit and even then it was absolutely infested with bots. They didn’t give a fuck, only cared about the IPO. But advertisers are going to care when they get lots of engagement but no customers because all the engagement is bots.
I don’t think it’s particularly hardcore myself, I’ve just been moving away from platforms as they’ve been enshittifying. I was on reddit over ten years but left over the API thing and haven’t been back. I stopped using Facebook a few years ago and haven’t missed it at all. I stopped using twitter when musk bought it, tried using mastodon for a bit but it was kinda barren so I’m on bluesky now. I still check in on mastodon occasionally. I’ll move on from these platforms too if they turn to shit. It’s easy to get caught in a kinda sunk cost thing with platforms, but really it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been there, how many Facebook friends you have, how much karma, whatever - if it turns to shit it’s time to move on, and best go early to avoid the rush!
If only there was a vegan alternative.
How much volume is 30k of bull spunk? I’m thinking it must be at least a bucket full.
All true. I just don’t know what we can do about them though. Some can be reached, many are too far gone.

Just wanted some attention, eh?
If it’s any help, I use the sync app on android. I also used sync for reddit prior to the API thing which finally made me leave, so my experience is pretty much the same in terms of format. I agree it can feel weird in a browser but there’s a bunch of good mobile apps that might feel more familiar.
Yeah, I was shopping for lithium on phosphatase leisure batteries maybe two years ago and was looking at spending over £1000 per battery. Now those batteries are not much over £100 and prices still seem to be falling.
Yeah I see this fairly often on lemmy, the same stories going round again and again for a week or so.
We’ve never really needed to use photo ID in England and never had problems with fraud. You can only visit one polling station one time, the system worked fine. The Tories changed it to deliberately disenfranchise the poor who are less likely to have these types of ID, and they did this because they’re scum.
Yeah fair point. I’m just thinking I’d call it a mental health issue more than an actual addiction. Extreme phobias are psychological and this stuff sounds kinda like the opposite of a porn phobia.
I suppose the feeling is that no actual children are harmed in making AI porn. It’s still something that sexualises kids though so I’m not sure how valid that argument is.
I kind of feel that the term ‘addiction’ is being used a bit freely these days. If you’re addicted to heroin, for example, and you’re unable to access the drug you are sick as fuck for a week. That’s not just a psychological phenomenon, it’s physical too. If a porn addict is unable to access porn I find it hard to believe that they suffer similarly. That said, people manage to mess up their lives pretty profoundly with gambling so perhaps it’s better to define addiction based on the harm done to someone life rather than the consequences of withdrawal.
The problem with democracy is that to really work it requires an informed electorate, and a lot of the information the electorate get is propaganda. But like you say, I don’t have a better alternative to offer.
Hate speech can also incite violence against targeted groups. I’m fine with freedom of speech but there’s got to be a line somewhere. I’m not sure whether this legislation is over the line or not, we’ll see how it’s enforced.
Alas I’m in England, no trader Joe’s here!
^ That’s antisemitic!
