  • I used to have a program called netlimiter (needed to throttle individual aop downloads on a shared WISP that was slow as balls). I bought a lifetime license like 10 years ago because I liked the software. A couple years ago they got rid of the old version and bumped me up to the new version. About a year ago I got an email saying something along the lines of “pay our new subscription fee or you lose your access” and basically put me on a trial account. I pirated their old version years ago to see if I liked the software enough after a couple months. I no longer use that software.

Another time I bought a lifetime access for a game on patreon. About 2 years later the dev switched to a subscription only fee to access all the new content and never released anything from updated versions to the older public release. So essentially I bumped down to a free tier of access to a game I paid for.

I will pirate until I die. Fuck these douchebags.

  • I agree with the no holding up traffic law since it drives me crazy seeing someone in the left lane going 10 under but that doesn’t really work. Speaking from experience, many companies have drive cams that will tattle if they’re speeding, following too closely (ridiculous distances too, like 10+ seconds), braking too hard, accelerating too hard, not coming to full stops and sitting for at least 2 seconds, etc. With everybody wanting to drive 10+ over they tend to get aggressive towards people in these vehicles when they’re just trying not to get fired. It adds lots of frustration to the driver. Police should be enforcing speed limits first then those what I call “moving road obstacles”. If they’re not going to drive the speed limit then get the fuck out of the way.

  • If they want ads then fine, however for them to be acceptable there needs to be massive changes to how they are served. First curate them. Ads are a security risk and speaking from experience I can tell you it absolutely does happen even on popular sites. I got a nasty one once on an old XP machine I didn’t really care about once from opening Spotify. So it’s not just shady sites. Even Blizzard had a malware infected ad on their forums years ago.

Second, stop being so aggressive with them. I don’t need a product ad forcibly shoved down my throat. If they want a banner on the side showing something then fine as long as it’s not a bloated mess of JavaScript or before it was canned, flash. And ads should not be taking up 40% of the page and causing it to load 3 times slower.

Third, advertisers need to stop harvesting my data for their financial gain. If they’re going to sell my personal life then I deserve the majority of whatever they made off me. But they didn’t ask permission nor do they share so fuck them. I’ll do whatever I can do they get as little from me as they can. Advertisers are leeches and honestly should just be removed all together. I’ve never purchased anything because of an ad and there are several products and companies I refuse to support because their ads were so obnoxious to try and get my attention. If a product is good enough word of mouth will be plenty. It seems like most of the time the more annoying and more often I see it the shittier the product or service being sold is. And if they can waste that much cash on ads then then they should pay employees more instead.
