Nearly all of my daughters sites she visited in college were nix servers. The exception being one administration machine she used for her payroll access as a RA.

Windows has a laughable market share when it comes to webservers.

They should be extremely infuriated that you are using some old and busted software that doesn’t support a common OS.

I’ve been using it for over a decade. Prior to that I used open office but it quickly became clear Openoffice couldn’t match the development of LibreOffice. There is no concrete reason to buy microsoft’s bloated ever changing garbage.

I know. All machines I purchase are pro machines. The only home machine a laptop we installed linux on it and just kept going.

Looks better than my solution which was to join the machine to a domain then add a local account after. I always add a local account of my machines then add them to a domain. Simple fact is they want to trap people in their walled garden and it isn’t going that well for them.

Wireguard so you are always seen as being on the local network. This bit of assholery is easily defeated.

The thing about the puritans were that they had harsh rules that existed to try to keep their flock from sinning. They failed as such things always fail.
A good example of a common practice from the time was that part of the pay of a young man working on another mans farm was the bed of their eldest daughter at night. It made identifying the father of the child easier.

This one practice alone made the puritans a lot more rational than this current cancer on society.

The thing about that movie for me is I started out very young with a home built blue box connecting to computers and BBS’s all over the world. I war dialed most prefixes in my region. I did all kinds of things that were to put it plainly, stupid. I learned by reading 2600 magazine, radio and electronics and tons of documents available on those BBS’s that changed numbers frequently. By 1995 I was all over the net and it was like the wild west. At the time that movie came out it was worse than a joke. Also by that time I had a job where compromising computer networks was less profitable than being able to maintain them.

Those books were terrible but the movie isn’t that bad. Just like Forest Gump isn’t a bad movie but was a terrible book.
