Only two avenues I could see nothing being hypocritical, signing it over/forming a co-op or doing rent-to-own with rent control and everything being transferable to “next of kin” upon some kind of accidental death.

I’m actually in a state of confusion over the fediverse, reddit, and social media as a whole atm. I loved switching over to Lemmy because of the foss/decentralizing and lower user count at first. If I see a thread with 1500 comments I’m less likely to interact with it, like trying to hold a meaningful conversation at a concert event.

Forums and articles are slowing becoming harder to find for information without going through 6 AI pages repeating the same paragraph in 20 different ways without really telling you anything new, so that’s slowly becoming more of a burden. Reddit is so inundated with mainstream now that even a specific trade community just has terrible trash comments that get upvoted and can even drown out a professionals real informational response (like youtube does a lot) but … at least it’s there I suppose.

Lemmy… well yes this space is “nerdy”, but there’s very few specific nerds. by that I mean like the true nerd definition of someone so into this one niche thing that they completely lose all touch with social ques because their area came up in conversation and they are salivating to talk about it. I just recently got told in the most popular pc build community here that they never really bothered looking at memory speed… I was flabbergasted.

so idk what I would like to see Lemmy become or the future of these types of sites in general. I forced myself to make that post on the pc build community because I was going through the process and maybe it would help someone out in the future and a little socializing while going through a project seems interesting. But, I have so many other posts I think about and just don’t do because it’s going to be either generic responses or me talking into the void with putting a lot of work into collecting all the data I have and formatting it/etc. Time is always limited, so it’s a battle over priorities and responsibilities.

The problem with that is it will just be a bunch of traumatized kids who have been indoctrinated and used as cannon fodder while the real problems are hidden behind keyboards and walled gardens. Children who have been taught that everything bad that happens to them is the fault of this “other” group they fear and don’t understand because of the sheltered and twisted world they’re born into.

Just as a curious follow-up, did they go into what would happen if your body is rejected or is there already a back-up plan in place?

Would the bodies really be at a funeral home though? Maybe like during covid when they were running out of space in some locations but generally I think it only gets sent to a business if the paperwork is done. Would be weird to just start sending random bodies to different funeral homes across the cities every time someone dies. (I have no idea btw)

All I can say is, you’ll still have those feelings even in a long-term after 15 years together. It’s the “grass is always greener” kinda thinking. You’re feelings aren’t invalid, but the expectations sometimes doesn’t come from reality and instead from media. We have such a screwed up view of what a relationship is “supposed to be” because of the shows and conversations we consume. Try to avoid romcoms/etc while getting your head cleared up a bit (anime’s are also bad about unrealistic relationship expectations).

The reality is you’re just two people trying to learn how to live together (either online or off), just be open and communicate properly. Saying, “Hey, I’ve been falling behind on my responsibilities and I have to focus on some stuff for the next few days” probably would’ve been a good heads up. She might’ve went to the party to distract herself from wanting to hear from you, maybe a response from not hearing from you, or maybe it’s something completely different and just wanting to experience life. Just work on communicating and excepting feedback/learning their position. That will go forward with you regardless of any outcome and will be a way to work on things.

This is the type of Pearl-clutching/fear mongering that lives in a head filled with propaganda. There are already laws in place which cover this type of fake scenario, the article itself dismisses the claims you’re trying to make. Find me a valid use-case for this law, there are hundreds of instances where the exact opposite happens and vehicles are used as a weapon to assault protesters but all you got are fictional “what ifs”? Don’t drive into a protest… Use common sense when you see a group of people gathered on the street like any sane person would.

I guess I’m just legitimately confused about how to feel about it all. Lemmy is free, signing up on an instance is free, people are posting/creating content for free, moderators are taking care of the space for free. No one’s locking in to get “fed” through the entire chain. The arguments about abandoned apps doesn’t really compute since plenty paid and advertising friendly apps go under/stop developing further as well (and the entire Lemmy eco-system is free so silly points of “capitalism better”). There’s also the crux of “Apps just replace a webpage”, they’re really not reinventing the wheel here.

But, if people prefer paid apps, if the developers want to construct the apps in that manner, have at it. I do think spreading awareness of what apps are out there is important, and how they operate (this is YSK after all). I also wouldn’t spend time in my day coming into defend organizations that want to monetize on open source community projects either.

Typically I don’t, the only reason I pull it up is because I have posts from 10 years ago that still get responses every month (I get e-mail alerts for those posts). Usually I’ll just message the user with information and an alternative forum I’ve setup in the past if they need more answers (it’s really niche and this forum format (reddit/lemmy) really doesn’t suit the topic). I keep thinking one day it will be all bots just leaving messages but they respond and usually sign up on the other site. So, I feel conflicted about deleting my posts or not responding because it is actually effective at connecting to new people, at least for the time being.

I’m starting to think they put something toxic in the Zip System, or at least it’s like a gateway for corporate sponsorship cocaine. Once they start jerking themselves off talking about how great Zip is, it usually goes downhill from there (not bashing zip, just is always funny). I just recently gave up on him so it was interesting to see the decline. There would be a really great informative video, then several just commercialized crap.

The sad part is if any of these products are scammy, we probably won’t find out about it publicly. The company product will just slowly fade from existence, maybe a report done by a safety or efficiency board that will call it out and be dropped from code. There’s been plenty of building products that don’t hold up to their specs when scrutinized.

I’m torn on affiliate links. I’ve worked with people in sales before and it’s usually scammy unless the contract is done right (flat rate commission, no bonuses for selling “certain” items). I’ve seen really hard working and informative workers that are actually impossible to replace because of the knowledge of products and handling the customers needs without flair or extra cost. Will inform them of cheaper methods like how easy it is to purchase and install a cable versus paying someone $100 just to plug something in and flip a switch basically.

In those instances, I think the affiliate/commission is warranted. Same with some awesome youtube channels I’ve ran across where they test the shit out of several products in a category (Torque Test Channel is a good one). If I need the product and I’m buying it off their recommendation I will gladly use their affiliate link if I think about it beforehand.

Now, there are some channels that I’ve just taken the affiliate link to be basically a form of sponsorship and promotion. Sadly a lot of construction/trade channels end up falling into this eventually. Matt Risinger is probably one of the worse ones, but even lower end guys like The Stud Pack just become a “new product showcase” channel instead of DIY or instructional videos.

In the link comment I provided I did state it was a far off miracle. But, my focus was less on 3rd parties or electoral reform, it was directly related to the “National Committees” that exists. I’m all for state parties, reminds me of when Bell was split into it’s different areas. But on a national level I wonder if it can be argued that it’s so far removed from focusing on “political ideologies of it’s group” to becoming a service provider for selected candidates. You could look at the committee’s structures, are they even following their own political ideologies, what type of controlling power they have, etc etc.
