I run immutable Fedora distros (Bluefin, Bazzite) and they are the most stable distros I’ve ever used. Immutable distros restrict writing to sensitive parts of the OS so you’re less likely to break things. You’ll mostly install Flatpaks which looks pretty similar to using the Windows app store.

I’ve seen some people say that immutable distros aren’t good for beginners. I’m really not sure why. My best guess is because they’re not the norm and you might run into support issues if things do go wrong.

If all of that sounds too scary then Linux Mint is a good choice. Never used PopOS myself but I hear that’s a good starter OS too.

Small thing, but if you’re torn between two or more choices look and see if one uses accessible screws to attach handles. Mine are kind of snap on and one of them is loose. I’m thinking I have a 30% chance of breaking something plastic during removal and having to buy a completely new handle.

As I’ve found out recently, finding true alternatives can be difficult. Take bread for instance. I just discovered Bimbo Bakeries own at least 26 brands. So when you’re on the bread aisle you probably have a moderate to high chance of buying one of their products.

Freedom Fighters. Some mechanics were clunky but most were great and I really can’t think of any other games with such a good mix of strategy and quick-thinking/reaction gameplay. I’ve played it through at least 3 times!

Some places have hybrid machines; an electronic interface but gives you a printout of your choices (like a Scantron form filler). I’m fine with this option so long as hardcopies are preserved for 2 years minimum and randomized checks are performed before and after an election on EVERY machine.

For me it really depends on the use-case. A lot of times I want persistence but don’t really care to access the data outside of the container. Also I use Podman a fair amount and it seems to be more troublesome when it comes to bind mounts.

I think encryption should be at the core of this project because it (1) protects the admins from some liability if/when a breach occurs and (2) the whole point of trying to get away from Google and similar hosts is to keep them from using our own data against us.
