I was a newly out queer teenager when OSC started running his mouth about gay marriage. At the same time I was a big Harry Potter fan.
Fuck Orson Scott Card, but he doesn’t seem quite so bad anymore.
Phrased that way, the while nipple graft thing is kinda weird. I know a trans guy who opted to forgo them entirely, the first time I saw him shirtless I had to do a double take because you know something’s missing but it doesn’t immediately occur to you what. His plan was to have tattoos done. I’m reasonably happy with my nipple grafts though, lol.
I thought this was a Tesla at first and I hoped he’d gotten a free vanity plate from a clever DMV worker.
I think significant media outlet uptake is more of a Mastodon metric, Reddit has a few high profile media outlet accounts - Tampa Bay Times I remember seeing quite a bit, they did a lot of good journalism about Scientology because Clearwater, but I think a lot of news companies slept on Reddit while it was worth using.
I think we have hit an interesting level for notability though. I use Bazzite Linux, and last month they sent a broken update for their version with legacy Nvidia drivers. I was one of the first people on the internet reporting having problems in a post here on Lemmy. As I stated to search my problem, I found that someone on the Bazzite forums linked to my Lemmy post because they had the same problem. They never commented in my thread and they may not even have an account. When’s the last time you saw a Tildes link in the wild?
One of my co workers at Disney did this, I’ve never tried it but every time I walked past their car with the cookie pan in the windshield I thought it was brilliant.
On Bazzite, and I use Heroic. It’s great for GOG and Epic store games.
many Americans are physically beating their children
I think it really depends on what you define as beating. Spanking was incredibly common in the South 20-30 years ago and 10 I would have said it’s still fairly common (and by south, my experience was in central Florida, parts of which actually are deep south). I’m glad it’s become less common because it actually is physically beating a child and shouldn’t be acceptable. But I’d say it still is.
As a trans man, I’ve found that one of the more horrifying nominally gendered childhood things that I share with way too many cis men is the trauma of the line if you don’t stop crying I’ll give you something to cry about. It’s fucked up.
Stardew Valley should be lightweight enough, it runs fine on my old-ish Kindle Fire.
Gubbins is a fun word game and a one time payment to unlock the ability to play more than once a day but it kinda chugs on the tablet. It’s free to try it at least.
Initially, it depends on the state, afaik eventually you’ll need some kind of teaching degree or the like, but a lot of states are so desperate for math and science teachers they will let you teach with just a subject area degree (but a lot of those states are awful to teach in, like Florida).
They’ve been saying that for the past 25-50 years, there’s more fossil fuels to be had, they’re just increasingly more difficult to reach (until the permafrost melts…)
It’s good we’re shifting to renewables, but we could continue our bullshit for the foreseeable future.
I’d look up and memorize winning lottery numbers, then teleport back two weeks ago. (4-d space!) And then I’d just buy a lotto ticket and chill until my past self becomes my current self, but with lottery money.
This is a question that is at least older than feudalism - the Greek tragedy Antigone deals with this question. And the answer, like always, is that desecrating a corpse is bad and dangerous and don’t do it, family is gonna be pissed and rightly so.
Even if it’s funny as shit that there were heads on sticks on top of Parliament for a while.
By the standards of US and Canadian politics, yeah we’re to the left of center. But “center” has been dragged to the right so far that it’s prompting this whole argument. The Overton window had shifted so far that liberalism - which, in a current context, supports relatively unregulated capitalism and trickle down economics - there’s a whole swath of political ideologies that’s basically nonexistent within our modern day electoral politics. I’m somewhere in the anarchist range and choose to engage with electoral politics - if they chose to participate within the context of a FPTP voting system with two options, we’d find ourselves voting for the same candidate despite our likely highly differing political beliefs. In many countries that left wing is less smashed, the range of political discourse is much wider.
Shit just works is to the left side of, but comfortably within, the current Canadian Overton window. In a global sense, the instance is kinda to the right, in the same way that Bernie Sanders is moderate by western European standards.
Estrogen, yes. Trans guys are fucked if we’ve got to order testosterone off the internet.
I’ve never had the opportunity to go to Playalinda, but I do really miss Paradise Beach before the tourists found out about it.
That’s hilarious. I love the goofy Eurovision acts.
The Ukrainian entry in 2021 was probably my favorite Eurovision song ever, check out the version they did for the contest. Shum by Go_A.
