When a medicine asks you to "take with food" how much food is enough?

I was just in the hospital for some tests and needed to take some food with the meds they gave me, They gave me two pieces of toast.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.
