Ahh, the 'ole Lemmy switcheroo.
Hold my cave bears, I’m going in!
This was seriously one of my favorite things on Reddit. I would be happy if it had a Renaissance on Lemmy. Looks like two communities exist but they haven’t gotten much traction. [email protected] and [email protected]
I don’t understand the phenomenon.
For example in OP you think they’re going to look up origin of bear cave but instead they did for “Romania”. That’s the switcheroo.
On reddit whenever that would happen someone would link to the previous time, leading to a long list where you could go back accross many posts.
So next time a similar thing happens someone could link here and so on.
If that makes any sense.
So each switcheroo just leads to a previous switcheroo and that’s the thing?
Cool, thanks.
Pretty much, yeah
Instructions clear, landed on kbin post explaining how to make it work. 4/10
The switcheroo!! You guys are the best.
Bear comes from the Proto-Indo European word for brown. Proto Germanic tribes thought that using the animal’s real name (probably Arkto) would cause it to appear, hence they used the euphemism “The Brown One”. In other European languages they also use taboo naming for bear. For example in Russian, a bear is called Medved (Honey Eater) or in Old Irish it’s mathgamain (Good Calf)
Very elaborate and interesting explanation coming from someone who wants to fuck spez
In the defence of old Irish people everywhere, they probably WOULD make for a pretty good calf by some measures…
Seems like Bearnia would have been a better name. I’ve seen bears there, but I’ve never seen Romans.
Plus, I suspect the bears were there first.
Okay, but what have the Romans ever done for us?
Took credit for road networks built by the Seleucid Empire?
The Romans had bears and by golly the Greeks had twinks
Some of those Romans were large, hairy gay men who liked to hang out in caves.
