God forbid that people have opinions… Life could be fun, but we don’t want that! Seriously, your only reason for existence on social media seems to make other people’s day worse. That is miserable.

From my experience, the inverse is true. The only truly poor people I’ve met were very rude.
Love that film. One of my favourites
This completely misrepresents the issue. It is not about working for free. A salary of a million bucks is just insane, regardless of context, be it for a non-profit, a private company or a presidential office. There’s no point of donating money to a cause if it only ends up in the pockets of a CEO who already has way too much of it.
Where did you get that from? Why should Lemmy be hostile to that? We often get posts about donating to valuable projects and such.
Hey buddy, do you want to try some of this GNU/Linux?
How many support LineageOS? Answer: a lot.
macOS definitely is Unix. In the literal sense that it is actually certified (unlike FreeBSD, for example), and it is very much Unix-y under the hood.
Definitely. Not often, but when I had them, they were strong and affected me for the remainder of the day.
Maybe for their first (genuine appearing) part, they use snippets from other, actual human comments? Because they really look quite convincing
Why should it affect LW or any other (non-Texan) instance? Any rogue country with populists at the head can implement any arbitrary legislation. That does not affect Lemmy instances hosted in countries with reasonable governments. If Texas wants to enforce their rules (or punish for non-compliance), it is on them to approach instance admins or block the site in their corner of the global internet.
Not everything is about new ways that capitalism can be painted as evil. There are valid reasons for why gluten free products are pricier, all of which have been presented in this thread.
P2P? How is that supposed to work? You cannot expect every user that uploads a video to even have remotely enough uptime for any arbitrary interested person to successfully watch their video
That would then mean that small instances would have to prove themselves before being accepted in the wider network of instances and just end up centralizing the fediverse.
Most of us want the Fediverse to eternally decentralise. Imho, this would be the optimal scenario. Whitelists would be a major obstacle to the décentralisation effort.
Sorry, but this post is ridiculous. I hope it’s irony. We are on Lemmy for our shared values and in order to uphold them. Standing up for what is important to you despite technical difficulties (especially such minor ones like the one you are dealing with) is a display of integrity. This issue should not motivate you to leave Lemmy for Reddit.
Plus if electric cars become the norm, the streets will be quiet for the first time since the industrial revolution
The sound of hooves on cobblestone is incredibly loud and annoying!
What really baffles me is modern computers. The whole assortment from mainframe batteries, desktop PCs, laptops to smartphones, watches, wireless earbuds, microcontrollers, miniaturised sensors, etc. Even the cheapest modern microcontrollers have insanely complex and tiny patterning that really speaks volumes for the amount of process control and precision in semiconductor fabs. Truly, I would call the modern IC a miracle if I wouldn’t know better. It is physics, materials science and chemistry at their best.
You cannot tell me that this is not the Onion! I would lose my faith in humanity for the billionth time…
Thank you for your contribution, that supports my suspicions. But do you know what incentive a merchant could have to not accept it? I find it weird that they would not accept SEPA direct debit when handled through PayPal, but they do accept it when there’s no intermediary.
I agree completely. Blocked the instance only now despite them becoming more and more annoying each month.
The Swiss might be a bad example. They are easily the craziest, most nationalistic people in Europe. I’ve dealt a lot with Swiss from all kinds of backgrounds over several years, and with foreigners living and working in Switzerland, and I can confidently say that I have never experienced anything comparable to how normal and ingrained xenophobia and an endless vicious hate for foreigners are in Swiss culture. The average Swiss seems to despise foreigners (who make about 50% of the workforce, btw) and views themselves and their country as superior to anything that might exist in the universe. This is not only a rural problem, it is common in several cities as well, perhaps most prominently in Lucerne. Their xenophobia has also been institutionalised with the Swiss police of several cantons enjoying the harassment of foreigners as their favourite pastime.
