Proof the system works right here.
I can understand this perspective: wanting to spread the gospel of federation, etc.
But I’m starting to come around to the realization that the growth mindset is rotten. It’s what leads to these big centralized/unified platforms that concede on their core in order to reach a wider audience.
I can’t blame corpos for conceding away all identity, because engagement is how they make money, but what’s our excuse?
These aren’t refugees. They’re free to make a lemmy or masto or whatever account any time they want. We don’t have a problem with most of the people. It’s the platform, and all the fucking out and proud racists who are on it.
My grandma who owned a diner used to say the same thing, but about cops
Thanks, I’ve got a bit of the ol face blindness
How dare you slander my people so.
It’s actually pronounced: Joe Louis
If we’re talking about French cats in this thread, you can’t not post “Curious French cat” by Sylvia Plath:
Yeah…
Not aware of any of these, which is nice, but iddqd
caught my eye since that’s a Doom reference! Overall I always thought the Doom community was pretty positive (at least going by Doomworld forums, and various Doom streamers, as I remember them). I thought surely it must be some misunderstanding! Oh maybe they didn’t reply quickly enough to take down some drive-by hate speech, but that was it.
Anyway, holy shit, do not go to that lemmy instance. It’s rotten to the core. I’m going to go take a shower and play through Episode 1 to cleanse myself now.
Bird? Snowball? Looks more “soggy” than melted, necessarily.
It is a neat effect. Have you tried making your own melt circle?
The connection between madness and pineapples has been a topic of conversation for years, but no one knows exactly why the two complement each other so perfectly.
I agree, but I do feel like the harm committed by “state terrorism” is worse, in a way I find hard to articulate. It’s true that using a separate word can be a useless distinction, but it does feel different to me in an important way.
But I’m not the kind of person who needs convincing that the state can sin just as well as the individual, so maybe my perspective isn’t applicable.
A good example of this is asking yourself if you would kill your immediate family if you could do so with impunity. For most of us the answer is, of course, no. That’s because of familiarity, and how we think of them as our “in group.” Same goes for anyone else. If you’re morally developed then no one should be afraid of you, except maybe the truly vile.
I suppose with that kind of power you wouldn’t really need to use violence to influence them. Just leave a notes in the field of vision constantly until they give all their money to charity or whatever. Maybe upgrade to random cream pies to the face in public if they’re not getting it.
I mean think of if someone pisses you off now, you don’t automatically go and fuck with them anonymously, even though it’s infinitely easy to do.
I feel like after a while, and maybe with a few notes left behind, it would begin to have a chilling effect.
The term I’ve heard for this the establishment equivalent of a terrorist: a “horrorist” (best link I could find here (2007) about Israel/Palestine conflict, America’s “War on Terror,” etc).
Basically what they do is legal, and according to plan, and somehow more respectable and orderly than what the terrorists do, but still the outcome is human suffering, often on a much grander scale than what any terrorist could hope for. For instance the accidental bombing of a school (oops!), or in the use of white phosphorous (which turns the divine human into a lump of abject suffering).
“Horrorists” can make you quake with fear, but unlike the terrorist, they have the legitimacy of a democratic state, and powerful allies to back their actions.
Good clarification.
True enough, but there is still more and less ethical consumption. For example buying a refurbished smartphone instead of a brand new iPhone may still indirectly support unethical mining and working conditions, but it is the less evil option.
I just don’t want people thinking they have zero power, so they may as well wallow in iniquity.
Yeah I like to come for air like every few years or so
