A quick search on eBay for “chromebook gm02xl battery” shows me a ton of battery for under $20 with shipping, saw one for $12 with free shipping.

As a kid I always said I wanted to “work on the computer at home so I could take care of my farm”.

Which coming from where I grew up was about as realistic as owning the moon.

I do think dreams have gotten more generic with a lot of kids aiming for that influencer life, but the other day I heard a neighborhood kid say he wants to be a deep sea monster truck driver. I’m not sure what that means but I love it.

I’ve been getting by just fine with a couple standing fans. I’ve had to turn the ACS on a couple times for my kids when I was around 110F

Before going full blast AC in all the rooms I’ll turn on the big Window unit in the living room and set up fans so it blows the cold air through the whole house (our house isn’t big) and I find its a good middle ground. It cools down the rooms pretty well.

I’m not sure about a gui but it’s pretty easy with docker compose. I can shoot you over a sample of my compose files and how I have it all set up. It’s just a couple files and a few commands and you should spend more time waiting for the containers to build than anything.

I don’t use streamio, but if you use docker you can set it up a gluetun container to be the network for a streamio container. It’s a fairly simple setup and it’ll keep any container connected to it behind the VPN you set up.

Is Streamio considered safe/private? I remember looking into it a while back and saw something about needing an account on their servers or something.

I used Kodi with addons for ages but switched to jellyfin because kodi felt too clunky and slow for my wife.

A few years ago we bought a dishwasher when we were in no place to be spending money on something unnecessary, but my wife was 8 months pregnant and wanted one. We bought the cheapest one at I think Lowes, if I recall correctly it was around $100, maybe $120.

The ducking thing doesn’t have buttons, it has some stupid sensor panel, not touchscreen but is supposed to mimic it I guess. The sensors just don’t fucking work, ever. I spend 10 minutes loading the thing and 15 minutes trying to get it to start. Most of the time I have to cut the power from the breaker a few times to eventually get it to work. It’ll just change through all the settings beeping like crazy, so we have to keep it shut which means our dishes don’t dry properly. For a while I could only get it to start on the intense mode so it took 3 hours to run, now it only works on normal. It’s like I have to do a magic spell each time but the steps change weekly.

I would love to throw it out and get a new one but it technically works and it’s only 3 years old.

I just use a knife. My wife got a fancy electric can opened a few years back and loves it but I can’t stand the thing.

I’m not sure how I feel about community service as a punishment. At the surface I think it’s a good idea, someone did something stupid so they have to go help out somewhere when they’d probably rather be doing something else, and it’s definitely a better alternative to beating your kids. I just feel like ultimately the people there should want to be there helping out, and forcing them to create a kind of divide between them and the people they’re supposed to be helping.

As a reckless teenager I had to do some court ordered community service and got to pick where I went, so I picked the shelter my mom and I were staying at thinking it’d be a breeze. On my first day there I heard some of the most vulgure things about the people staying there, I got the rundown on who everyone ordered to be there wished wasn’t alive, and how everyone generally didnt want to be there helping these people and would rather be anywhere else. I kept my head down while we were there so no one really recognized me, I honestly don’t think they saw us as people worth remembering anyway. I switched to a food bank after a few days because I couldn’t take it. It was a little better because most of the people working there were actual volunteers.

Not knocking your parenting method at all, I’m sure (I hope) your oldest isn’t spitting in a big pot of soup out of spite for being forced to be there.

Also kudos to you for not trying to scare your kids into submission. Everyone that I’ve seen try to use fear as a parenting tool has in my eyes failed and it shows through their kids, who you really can’t blame. I’m currently trying to get a neighborhood kid to stop coming around because his parents come over and scream too much, so the kid acts out, but I can’t figure out how to do that without making him feel like he’s just a bad kid who we don’t want around, it seems like he’d be a good kid with a little love in his life. He’s just a kid and the bad shit he does is entirely the parents fault.

Probably any other country where I could get a doctor to take a look at my heart condition without having to take out a loan against my house to pay for it.

I absolutely hate that I have a gas stove and water heater mainly for reason 2. It fills me with pure anxiety.

I know there’s a relatively small chance, but whenever we’re turning the corner and I see the house is still there it’s a huge relief. In the next year or two we should be able to put out the money to put in outlets and get rid of gas.

I do almost everything in my house but the 2 things I won’t touch are electric and gas.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Kodi? I’ve been using seren + rd for years, I got a month of all debrid since I can use it with seren, but it being based in France as well I’d rather switch.

I found POV which I can use with torbox. But I’m absolutely clueless as to what the popular, functional addons are nowadays.

I do something similar, I’m on a dev team of 2 and a while back we started going in once a month for a “planning day” where we spend a couple hours in person planning out our month and spend the rest of the day talking to the teams who actually use our software to get feedback and ideas. At first the owner would take me and the other dev out for lunch but we’ve turned it into a whole office thing. So usually the whole offices shuts down for about 2 hours for a nice free lunch when we come in. One day a bunch of us went out for mini golf after lunch on the bosses dime. Another month a couple of us played old Xbox games and smoked cigs in the basement while we “brainstormed”.

Back in the day I had a friend who ran essentially a fish dispensary and had a good connection on quality fish antibiotics. I would stock up on a bunch of stuff whenever they were making an order.

My numbers are surely off but I was paying something like $5 for ~500 amoxacillan, where at a rite aid or CVS you’d be paying, what $50 for 14 pills. The same ingredients, the same markings, the same thing. Just a lot cheaper for fish.
