Democrats can’t actually solve any of the issues they campaign on since the more things they actually solve, the fewer issues they have to make their right-wing, milque toast corporate candidates appear distinct from the GOP.

Doing things like legislating abortion, reforming healthcare, protecting minority rights, fixing our broken immigration system etc. would mean they then have to start looking into the real fundemental issues like campaign finance reform and repealing Citizens United and stuff.

That’s the beauty of it, the deal isn’t for an end to the genocide, just a temporary pause so that Israeli hostages can be exchanged for Palestinian ones.

I wonder sometimes if some of them haven’t also been some of the young people imprisoned for protesting the war at the start, now used as fodder at gun point. Russia has shown no issue with sending their soldiers on suicide missions to test defense lines etc. A body can have “use” to the war machine, whether it’s willing or not.

The war is righteous for Ukraine and needs to be fought, but I never feel celebratory about the scale of death.

It also runs the risk of giving pedophiles something to form communities around wherein they reinforce the idea amongst one another that society is the one who has a problem not them.

Additionally, in those communities it becomes more difficult to identify pictures and video of abuse to real children by muddying the water. The more sophisticated AI image generation becomes, the harder it will become for law enforcement that deals with this shit.

We are going to need to do this again in a year because every delay extends the war and pushes Ukraine further from being able to regain the initiative. It’s the same way the delay on the F-16s crippled the effectiveness of last summer’s offensive by Ukraine. The US delayed and delayed until the window for the F-16s to be effective had passed and everything became entrenched again over the winter and thousands of Ukrainian reserves had been spent on a largely ineffective push.

It’s now spring, and the aid probably won’t really get there for months, so I foresee this stalling things yet again.
