Okay, I get it, you don’t know time zones already so you have to research every time but most people don’t think of the other people please.

So every time you deal with somebody in a different location, you can’t assume anything about the hours and times you have to ask them or go look it up Even if you have a decent idea where they live because you’re not going to know the time disparity of every city out there.

One doesn’t need to panic buy items that they keep in stock at sufficient levels. :)

55 lbs of 00 flour in the chest freezer, still have about 25lbs of AP flour in there. 1 30lb bag of Jasmine Rice, 1 25 lb basmati. I still have a ton of beans and and dry pasts in mylar/oxy absorb sitting in barens cans for long term storage. When covid started, I had 1 million calories in storage. I don’t plan to go back to that, but I intend to be able to hunker down for a long time.

For work, I’m pushing to purchase more laptops before tariffs.

I’ve considered stowing fuel with a stabilizer but even if prices double on fuel, I don’t use enough of it to make a difference.

It would be a good time to buy any lithium ion batteries and finish off those ali-express/temu orders.

We have high standards for American Chinese food. There was this place where we used to live in the food was great. Not everything they made came out of a bag, and even the things that did come out of a bag had absolutely superior sauces. I don’t know exactly what they did but whatever it was it was better heads and tails than anything else around here.

We ordered our regular dishes one day. A few hours later we were exploding out of both ends. Was it them? was lunch? Who knows? We went about our regular business and two weeks later ordered the same regiment. A few hours later we again were exploding out of both ends.

The puking wasn’t all that bad but the raw acid diarrhea and the massive cramps were just insane.

This was a pretty bad scenario because of the time we lived in a house with one bathroom.

We never ordered from there again. They had this really great iced tea It took me ages to figure out how to replicate it. It ended up being like 14 to 1 regular sweetened black tea to Earl Gray, plus a splash of lemon.

There hasn’t been any normal for 8 years plus now. Somewhere between 30 and 45% of the population are openly trying for fascism.

Realistically it’s only a matter of when unless we make some pretty damned sweeping changes which they are going to fight tooth and nail.

We need to unrig the judicial system. We need to unrig the voting system. We need to put guardrails up on media disinformation. And we need to start holding some of these fucking politicians accountable for openly lying in campaign. We need to roll back the dictator privileges they managed to shove in at the last moment for the president. We need to hold some of these oligarchs accountable for crimes.

They should lock Musk up for a month. Go ahead and have him shit himself that he’s not above the law.

I don’t know who the next Republican president will be. But you can bet money there’s going to be plenty of bloodshed once they decide to do whatever they want with complete and total immunity.

The crypto is decent, it’s electron so it’s source available. If you want to ignore their hosting solution, you can disable the syncing and just take the vault from its config directory and sync it yourself

The real downsides are that it’s not actual open source, so if they decided to screw around with the security or turn the crypto off somebody can’t just fork it.

I’d vote for anytype or obsidian

Anytype has a learning curve, But it has built-in encryption and IPFS syncing provided by the company. The templating system is really slick and the relational aspect is pretty solid.

Obsidian + syncthing fork is a really solid contender. It’s much easier to work with out of the box but the features are a little more generic.

Neither of these are really self-hosted, so much as they are contained in their own ecosystem. You get some measure of higher availability that you have to really work for if you’re really self-hosting a product.

It’s prohibitively difficult. Like not just hard, but complete redesigns for even fairly small adaptations.

Hardware: The parts just don’t replace each other one for one, and it’s not just where the wires are. Each SOC or component requires a cadre of resistors capacitors, voltages, signal lines that don’t line up well between different products. The boards that these components mount on are many layers thick with wiring hidden in multiple layers. You can’t even just bodge and reroute everything all the time. In many cases the packages wouldn’t even fit in the intended target spot and phones have precious little space to spare. Then for a lot of chips you’ve got thermal considerations.

The 10x camera for an s23 wouldn’t have a chance at fitting in a pixel, the focal lengths are different It literally wouldn’t even fit in the case.

Drivers/software: especially relation to cameras, a lot of third party software can’t even run the full compliment of Samsung cameras. Commands to switch back and forth between lenses aren’t universal. In a lot of cases you can screw around with different camera software and get it to work and make modifications for the cameras to signal when they need changes. But then when you take a s24 which is 64-bit only you can no longer run any of the 32-bit camera software that used to do things like sphere camera. And then even if you did manage to swap sensors out all of the lens correction would be wrong. You’d end up with Chroma and correction issues. The cameras aren’t just giving you what’s off the sensor anymore. A long time ago we used to get big upgrades in picture quality going from one sensor to a new more sensitive sensor, We now do the opposite and use really big sensors that take multiple samples per pixel and we drive those pictures with complicated software or even AI to generate better looking imagery. When all the software and hardwares tuned together to give you a better image and you swap the hardware out it’s a bad thing.

These devices are all very custom they’re very purpose-built around each one of the features and the subcomponents don’t even match up neatly in between different models in the same line. I’m fairly certain you couldn’t even fit an s23u 10x camera into an s24u.

TL;DR it’s essentially as close to impossible as you could make it in just about every way you can imagine.

Oh, we know. We’re in a mixed race community and you can see the distaste on the bus drivers and teachers faces. We can see them ignoring the bullying, and we get to hear the stories when they go to tell the teacher or bus driver something going on and they just shut them down and tell them to go back to their seat.

How about the other way around, I had this guy come in, he had been out of the business for a while and decided to go and be a mechanic for a few years. One winter in particular he decided that he was kind of tired of doing the mechanic stuff and wanted to come back.

I interviewed him on a phone screen. His knowledge was appropriately dated but he was not bad. I figure he’d be able to come in and get up to speed pretty quickly.

My company does kind of a nightmare scenario where they interview you all day long and you literally meet with everyone in groups.

First thing in the morning first group came through said he was great.

Second group came through asked him some questions and he was a little bit more cagey but still not bad.

The third group was the lunch group, They took him out to lunch and he threw out a bunch of racist stories and while people watching, made fun of people as they came into the restaurant for their ethnicity or their weight, or what car they drive or whatever else they could find.

The lunch crew came back and did a hand off but no one raised the flags right away so we went into the first after lunch crew. A couple of people from the lunch crew pulled me aside while he was in his next set of meetings and said they were extremely uncomfortable being around him and recounted the stories.

I had to bust up the interview and send him on his way. The person that was uncomfortable with what he said is one of the most IDGAF people I’ve ever met.

Years earlier we had a developer come in with a fantastic resume. They brought him in first thing he was rude, and we’re not talking autistic doesn’t know what he’s doing rude he was clearly making a lot of generalizations about people and being nasty about the questions. Skill wise he was absolutely fantastic and he would have been fabulous to be a lead in front of a complicated project, But he was impossible to be around. Toward the end of the Early interview they told him that they had all they needed. He asked him if it was because of his attitude and they said that it was a team job and they needed somebody that was capable of working with a team. He said they could just put him in a one-man team and have him architect things or do other work by himself. There was simply no chance they were going to hire him. You don’t willingly bring that much toxicity in the workplace if you can help it.

Lol, That’s why I self-host so much crap. The only way I can give it to everybody is to make it a web app, or maintain three separate sets of clients.

I’m kind of apprehensive to open up a really small projects on my home network to the outside world. Kudos for maintaining unraid as a platform though.

They put them in all the flashlights because of a combination of minimum features required and cost savings.

To keep heat at a minimum and improve power usage, LEDs benefit from being run by a driver circuit.

If you’re going to use a driver circuit you might as well allow for dimming if you’re going to allow for dimming you need to have timed button presses.

There’s only a couple of companies out there that make the circuitry that does the LED driver / lithium ion charging, so everybody just uses the same chipset.

If you want to flashlight that just turns on and off and doesn’t have a lot of features try to find one that doesn’t have lithium ion batteries. If you don’t need the lithium ion charger they’re more likely not to use one of them more extensive chipsets.
