Good choice!
On the Dutch version of the Correspondent, there is a recent series of articles on how young people with ideals are lured into zero-impact bullshit jobs by big corporations. In case any Dutch readers are watching along: the author’s name is Simon van Teutem. There’s also a book by the same author with the same message, although I have not read it yet.
Although I am nearing 50, it has struck a certain nerve with me. The author puts into words a certain opinion that I have been having the last few decades in a more poignantand hopefully impactful way than I will ever be able to.
… and I just ran out of bubble gum. :-)
Duke 3D is really quotable.
I have a special hate for Phil Collins’s solo work. Take a decent drummer from a sort-of-interesting band and have them throw away all their talent to make drivel that has all sharp edges filed off. Also, I was forced to hear this throughout my teenage years all the time.
It depends who does the ridiculing, in which time period and where they do that. In the last quarter century, in Europe, Dubya has been a grateful target, although Trump makes him look good.
Another one I have not read in this thread yet: seek out (or organize) activities in your neighbourhood.
I’d love to give a helpful answer other than Kafka audiobooks (sorry, am dad, could not help myself), but what do you consider kafkaesque?
Friends.
Shallow, punchable people who made being dumb fucks a virtue.
My problem with those series is that there is probably a decent story, but you simply get side tracked by exploration, multiple side quests and a main story that does not develop fast enough to stay interesting.
PS:T was a positive exception to that though. The substories of the party members were actually developed to help along the main story. If you were done explloring, you could just talk to one of your party members, and gradually unlock part of the main protagonist’s history. Very clever.
Baldur’s Gate, Elder Scrolls and Divinity series all spring to mind. I really want to like those games, but the story just progress way too slow.
I loved Planescape: Torment though.
I am getting slightly off-topic here, so downvote me if necessary. When I buy new running shoes, they normally last ~1000 to ~1200 kilometers, with an occasional peak up to ~1400. The salespeople recommend replacing running shoes after ~800 to ~1000 kilometers due to the support wearing out.
Back on topic: if you know a good shoe cobbler, you may want to re-sole your boots.
I wish that I had the luxury to be bored.
OP: what age are you and where are you from?
Another vote for Raising Arizona, although it is a close tie with Wild at Heart.
A friend of mine bought a gaming keyboard with magnetic switches (which is a new concept to me). That felt comfortable. I sadly forgot which brand or model it was.
That being said, if you have red or yellow switches, your keyboard should not be clicky. Many mechanical keyboards even have swappable swihches, so in theory you should be able to replace the switches on your keyboard with red ones.
I have been a Cure fan for over 30 years now. I have seen them live twice, both times in their ‘Bloodflowers’ tour. Normally, when they perform near us, they perform on big festivals. I hate festivals.
The “average adults” in my bubble all complain about not being able to game, but somehow know all about the popular TV shows of the moment. And of course Formula 1 and the many football leagues (world football that is, not ‘American’ hand-egg).
It’s all a matter of priorities.
Also, as my kids are a bit older now, we sometimes game together. My son loves coop Portal and my daughter enjoys it when I play Valheim. She loves watching me explore the game world.
And where I come from: expensive German SUVs, preferably Mercedes.
More frustrating: for every little thing you do manage to fix, three new jobs pop up!
