Something about packing heat, too.
Finally, some quality content!
Right? Just getting up and doing something is so important. Whatever works to keep people from being sedentary.
Bingo. When my body is healthy, my brain is healthy. When my brain is healthy, my code is better.
Working out. (I do it most weekdays, too).
I work in software, and I’ve seen far too many guys in my industry who are either skinny as a rail and surviving on Cheetos dust, or painfully overweight. Had several co-workers croak unexpectedly, at shockingly young ages.
It’s a real problem in the industry. People simply plop themselves down at their computers and forget to do anything else for an entire day.
I have kids, and refuse to let them lose their dad early, so I hit the gym for an hour in the mornings, at least every other day. I do a mix of cardio and weight training. I also never stay seated for longer than 45 minutes.
Seriously, guys… If you work in the software industry, make a habit of getting up and moving around. It doesn’t actually take much to reap enormous benefits just from staying more active.
I don’t miss Reddit often, but when I do, it’s because a certain duck-obsessed novelty account would have a field day with this.
If it’s personal behavior, there is no line.
Seriously, we need to internalize this: If you support Donald Trump in 2024 at this point, there is no goddamn line. There is nothing too atrocious or puerile or insulting to his own base that he could do or say to lose them at this point. He owns them.
I used to joke that he could literally eat a baby live on stage at one of his rallies and not lose supporters, because he’d insist it was fake news even as the blood dripped down his chin.
It’s not a joke anymore. He really could do it, and far too many of his supporters would believe him over their own lying eyes.
Trump support, at this point, is a mental health crisis in this country.
The thing we as a planet need to recognize is that Russia is waging a propaganda war against everyone, and it’s currently winning.
But the freakiness is still 100% present in their platforms and ideologies. They’re just dressing nicer now.
…with voters endorsing a plan to break up the country in just a few years…
What the actual fuck! These extremists just… don’t want to be a country anymore? Putin must fucking love them.
Exactly. And they won’t fix immigration, they’ll just enrich themselves as much as they possibly can.
It’s truly bizarre. Every couple of decades or so, either the United States or significant chunks of Europe decide, “What the hell, let’s give the right-wingers another chance, they say they’ll fix immigration,” and then we end up cutting funding for services and giving tax cuts to the rich. They pull this shit every goddamn time, and we keep falling for the bait-and-switch.
Hey, uhh, Europe? Can we talk?
Look, I know the way the left has been handling immigration has you upset, but could you please take a closer look at the absolute freaks you’re electing today?
I mean, just take a good look at the United States, circa 2017 through 2020. Did we look like electing an absolute freak worked out for us? Did it fix our own immigration problems? Did it make electing your own Donald Trumps look like a good idea?
Sounds like some deeply, deeply internalized self-hatred going on there.
Wow. This is… wow. OK, look… I like the sentiment, the idea that healthy relationships in general should be depicted more often, but can you name the last ten shows or movies you watched that feature healthy depictions of LGBTQ+ relationships? I can, because those depictions are so rare they stand out. I can’t name the last ten shows or movies I watched with straight relationships in them, because that’s literally all of them. Yes, including the ones that also depicted LGBTQ+ relationships.
There needs to be more healthy representation of relationships. But specifically straight ones? Nah… We’re saturated with those enough already.
Holy shit, he actually said that.
This, right here, is a prime example of a political headline that looks like it comes from The Onion.
You do raise some valid points, but the problem here is that if we go that route, we might as well rename this community from “Not The Onion” to “Politics But Focused Mostly On Hypocrisy”.
I don’t think most of the people in this community want this to be a politically-focused community to the exclusion of everything else. We don’t want every article on the front page to be yet another “Trump did/said something hypocritical again.” That’s not Onion-y.
I mean, I’m not gonna dispute that reality has been resembling The Onion more and more, but it’s important that the headlines convey that Onion-y goodness, and too many lately haven’t or are really borderline. People come here to say to themselves, “Holy shit, I can’t believe that’s a real headline!” Not “Holy shit… now I’m depressed. Oh, and that headline… is depressing.”
I worry about the people who need to be told things like this. How did they survive childhood without signs warning them not to breathe water or drink the contents of thermometers?
