On what basis do you believe they should not be allowed to run? It’s a democracy, outside of a small handful of qualifiers, anybody can run.
If your actual question is “why have the major parties chosen these two individuals?” then that’s much more complicated.

I’ve used that method many times, and while it certainly reduces the time it takes to peel in bulk, I’ve never found that it fully removed the peels from the majority of cloves, which means they still need individual attention to complete the job. Or put another way…it’s still a pain in the ass.

The punctuation inside quotes thing is one of those rules where I know what the correct way of doing it is, but I intentionally do it wrong because I think more people do it the wrong way in practice. I guess it depends on context; I might do it the correct way in formal work correspondence.
