  • My most used one is a two letter terminal alias (zz for zigzag) that copies all the track information from a specified playlist, or from my “download" playlist if none is provided. It can also read from CSV and text files in order to remove all special characters and repeated words from each name. Then it outputs a formatted version to my clipboard, which I then paste into another program’s config file. Then I wait…

  • I deleted my account before RIF died, as the writing was on the wall. I check Reddit accountless if there is a big news story, but tend to avoid it otherwise.

Honestly I miss (the old) reddit sometimes, but Lemmy has been really enjoyable. My reddit account was getting old anyways, I’d already seen all the content that was reposted every year or so and was just getting annoyed. I absolutely do not miss the aggression of every reddit thread, I feel like we are generally all on the same team here.

I guess that is kind of the downside of Lemmy too - if you’re not a very specific type of person, it probably won’t appeal to you. And I guess that can sort of result in an echo chamber, although it seems instead of arguing about the left and the right, we argue about the far left and the farther left.

  • It is definitely a stupid strategy. I have a large iTunes library, and when they released the apple music app for windows a few years ago I tried switching over. Somehow the new app was even worse than iTunes, so I had to figure out how to switch everything back. At the same time I tried installing the iCloud app for PC - that may be literally the worst piece of software I have had the displeasure of using. It installed a bunch of services on my PC, added itself to the file explorer, and then failed to let me log into my account. That was also fun to figure out how to completely remove.

Maybe it is working again now… I have no real desire to test it again. Clearly they released these applications (after years of complaints) knowing that they weren’t functional, or possibly without any testing whatsoever. Overall it is a laughable effort from a company with a budget as large as Apple’s.
