  • Something with enough context to write sensible test cases for a large codebase. It would be great if you could write test cases for a couple of domains, then ask it to write cases for a third domain following the same general style as the first. It would ideally have a conversation about what things to mock/stub and what things to keep.

I personally think 5 years isn’t enough time to get to that point with something that works really well. It’s tricky enough to get a junior up to speed with doing it sensibly, but cutting down on the time it takes to build a good test suite would mean we Devs can spend a lot more time on features and improvements.

  • I don’t understand this argument re Scotland. Brexit was a disaster for a country which had been a member with a trading block for a few decades and which only had some regulatory compliance laws on its own books to amend.

Scotland has been fully integrated into the UK economy, political system, and legal system, etc for hundreds of years. It would be many many times more painful and damaging for them to leave, and joining the EU after who knows how many years of sitting up there isolated wouldn’t make up for what Scotland would lose by leaving the UK.

We should be arguing for more cooperation and bigger unions, not smaller ones. Further devolved powers, a better system for representation of the nations in parliament, kicking out the Tories and bringing in more beneficial policies for the UK, etc should be the priority imo. Not even more -exits.

  • Don’t bother engaging with them. They aren’t going to change their mind. That’s the downside with Lemmy. There are so few users that these obstinate trolls don’t get buried. Engaging with them just makes their bad takes and bad faith bs take up more space in a thread.

It’s possible they are a real person who’s been banned from most other platforms for spreading their bile and have settled here because the low engagement means their troll bait gets picked up, or they are a non US citizen trying to astroturf US political shit.

  • Yeah I run Pop shell (gnome with a bunch of tweaks) and don’t miss a dock or task bar at all.

Great keyboard navigation of workspaces and automatic tiling make it super easy to organise programs and navigate to what I need almost instantly.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with cosmic once it’s ready.

  • It absolutely wouldn’t be. What are you on about? A big part of why Labour are polling well because they look like a safe pair of hands. Starting an interparty factional war over who the new leader should be will completely damage that and possibly lose there election.

Half of the Tory base are either indifferent to a Labour victory or would actively vote for them. If you throw another Corbyn in the mix that will change and the base will come out again. It’s simple electoral math. Please stop advocating for more Tory rule.
