That is because the size of an area has less importance to the development of dialects than time. Dialects developed in pre-industrial times in fairly small localised areas, when contact with other areas was sparse. European countries much smaller than the UK still have more dialects than the US because of this.

You do realize the reason fahrenheit is set up that way, is based on the human perception of temperature. 0-100 is the general range or cold to hot.

That is not why fahrenheit works the way it does. This is something Americans have appropriated as a silly and poor excuse for using it. “cold” and “hot” are completely arbitrary and subjective terms, and the 0-100 range is as arbitrary.

Metric is good for science, but not ideal for casual everyday usage of hot and cold.

That will come as a surprise to the billions of people using it every day for exactly that purpose. You are projecting your own ignorance over billions of people, because you yourself have no idea how it works.

I don’t think it is a convention anywhere but very very far north. For the majority of people living in the Northern hemisphere by far, as in almost everyone, it has been some for some time now.

Since they were the kind of hairspray rock which grunge was largely a response to, that would be much more jarring. U2 grew out of the new wave/post punk scene, which has much more in common with the origins of grunge than Motley Crue ever had.

They have never been considered grunge by anybody. They released the album Achtung Baby in 1991, which recieved much critical acclaim, but so did a lot of other non-grunge bands. Just because a band released popular music in the early 1990s, doesn’t mean they are grunge.

Obviously him (and all the other oligarchs behaving like this) are counting on their entourage of sycophants following them.
