It’s interesting how the most open instances aren’t the biggest ones with no user restrictions, but the smaller instances that no one has issues with. I moved away from LW because of performance issues, but I’m happy to be able to see both LW posts and BH posts. Sopuli has defederated from some instances, but I’m happy with their choices so it’s as unrestricted as I want it to be. Others would choose an even less restrictive/restricted small instance, or like yourself just run your own to have complete freedom.
They just want to clarify that he’s not selective, he’d also rape adult women if given the opportunity.
I don’t care if Dave believes it or not, he’s attacking people from a position of power who are at danger in our society. It’s not an unbreakable rule, but it’s the core context used when trying to decide whether it’s productive. You can say a lot of terrible things about people who are hurting and elicit a chuckle from at least some subset of the population, that doesn’t make it good (in the good for society sense) comedy.
That’s why there’s a world of difference between KG and Chapelle, and no lack of consistency in people that think KG made a harmless joke and Chapelle is contributing to a trans panic that both oppresses and endangers lives. And it’s not a mistake. There have been other comics that have had off-color sets that when confronted about them thought about it and realized it could be harmful and wasn’t really that important to keep. It’s not his job to make trans jokes and that’s a very different comedy than simply being “incendiary”.
Jack Black is the one canceling the tour, he doesn’t deserve shit. Get it to Kyle somehow, he was dropped by his talent agency.
And there are very literally hundreds of thousands of people who are dead because of him and his intentional choices to choose politics over public health in a deadly pandemic. When I saw the news I thought, while it could just be someone acting politically, there are also a lot of people who lost cherished family members to his actions and now see him not only not seeing any consequences, but on the path to do it all again. I’m surprised this is the first serious attempt, frankly.
Especially from an explicitly politically left performer like Black. Grow some balls man.
Dave Chappelle was punching way down while Kyle was punching about high up as you possibly can.
There’s plenty of things one could say “as a joke” that we would and should denounce as a society, and political violence is…
Not one of them. Kyle isn’t a militia member calling to arms and no vulnerable people are being harmed by being irreverent about a fascist preaching violence barely missing the consequences. Don’t punch down, but do punch Nazis.
Celebrities have a responsibility to uphold social norms or at the very least not to normalise concepts we will not tolerate as a society including political violence.
What the fuck do you think comedy is about?
Same. Have some fucking loyalty to your boy, he said nothing warranting this reaction.
From my experience modding on Reddit, it’s generally a good idea not to engage with spam comments at all. Just downvote and report them. The ideal outcome is they just silently disappear when the mods get them, and if they’ve been otherwise ignored it’s super easy. If there’s a comment chain underneath it, it starts to take more thought and ends up getting messier as it involves either removing ok comments from other users or removing the context for those comments.
Same thing for human trolls. Downvoting is good, but once you engage in them the removal gets more tedious, especially since troll threads tend to spiral out of control. Modding is done by volunteers, make it easy for them, especially since responding to these things usually has very little value. Obvious spam and trolling is obvious to everyone and the downvotes signal to other people to not take it seriously.
I know it’s a general consumption news story, but I wish they’d have at least included a name or basic description of what the “AI” used was. “AI” is about as blandly unspecific as you can get even if it’s only being applied to algorithms that fall into that broad category, let alone how commonly it’s misused nowadays.
Letting convicts join under very strict rules is literally letting prisoners out to fight.
And sure, they could negotiate with America on penalties. Or they could turn a blind eye because they’re in a war for survival and these are volunteer units of foreigners. It would be nice if war crimes enforcement was a top priority in every war, but the United States doesn’t do it when we have the universal upper hand and can easily loose a few fighters without it having any impact on our success or sovereignty.
Ukraine is in a war for survival. They just let prisoners out to fight. I doubt they’re going to go after a foreign volunteer battalion lead by fighters from one of their major suppliers of arms.
They even quoted a protester, which shouldn’t be an unusual event when covering protests, but here were are.
the city’s mayor, who called for more police patrols.
You don’t need more police patrols, this was a protest with insufficient police staffing, not a random event the police would need to stumble upon. Somehow even with planned events the police knew about and were already present at, mayor’s answer is just more police wandering around.
Wild that the Times of Israel, reporting second-hand, has a more factual accounting of the event.
Violent clashes broke out Sunday between pro- and anti-Israel demonstrators in Los Angeles after the latter held a protest outside the Adas Torah synagogue, where an Israeli real estate fair was being held.
The first line establishes the relevant information, not some vague idea that there were protesters just stopping Jews from worshipping. The only context missing is that the real estate fair probably isn’t for apartments in Tel Aviv. It’s probably for West Bank settlements, which are heavily populated by Americans.
CNN surprisingly actually had a more detailed accounting, albeit surrounded by the dominant anti-Palestinian narrative.
Synagogue hosted Israel real estate event
The protest stemmed from an Israel real estate event on Sunday at the Adas Torah synagogue, according to the synagogue’s security director and social media posts from organizers.
The event at the synagogue was organized by My Israel Home, a firm that markets real estate in Israel and West Bank settlements and was advertising on social media. CNN has reached out to My Israel Home for comment.
In one video, two men appear to be wrestling on the ground as others kick at them. Later, one of the men – holding an Israeli flag – appears to have a bloodied face and mouth.
Additional video showed an egg thrown at a pro-Palestinian activist and a man wearing a keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian scarf, chased and punched on the ground by a man wearing a Jewish yarmulke or kippah.
During many of the altercations, bystanders worked to pull and hold people apart.
Fascist thought is perfectly compatible between countries of different races. The philosophy is the “right” type of people should expel (or murder) undesirable minorities and take the resources they need. If those minorities go somewhere else and oppress some other people, that’s just how the world is supposed to work when it’s not corrupted by things like equal rights or respect for personal freedom. It’s how Aryan-supremacist Germany had no issues allying with Japan. They both believed in a world order where it was the natural state of things for racially homogeneous states to dominate lesser races and claim the resources for their people. Because they’re just better, and all the problems are from race-mixing and kowtowing to the undeserving.
One of the early anti-Jewish efforts by the Nazis (promoted now by some Israeli politicians) was encouraging Jews migrate somewhere else, Israel being one of the common destinations.
This is unhinged. Someone building the mainline of an interoperable communication service should absolutely be helping others making software trying to interoperate with it. Complaints can be made about Rochko rejecting PRs, but complaining that other people’s time is going towards a thing they don’t want is insane.
“So they reached out to us and we had conversations about what they want to do, how they can do it, and we had more detailed conversations about how to do X, how to do Y protocol-wise. We helped them resolve some issues when they launched their first test of the federation because we want to see them succeed with this plan, so we help them debug and troubleshoot some of the stuff that they’re doing. Basically, we’re talking with each other about whatever issues come up.”
But from the perspective of hundreds of instances have signed the anti-Meta FediPact, and hundreds more are blocking Threads without signing the pact, any resources devoted to to improving the Threads/Mastodon integration are wasted.
I don’t trust it because there’s no believable plan to make it commercially viable, so it’s just going to end up defunct or enshittified. Mastodon is up front, it’s a volunteer service that you can either pay for or roll the dice on the instance staying up. And there’s a built-in way to move on when one goes down.
BlueSky is a B-corp, which theoretically means they can say their mission takes priority if sued by an investor in court, but doesn’t in any way require them to make it the primary goal, and the reality of funding and money and investors means that’s almost certainly not going to happen.
