Anything using vanguard such as valorant and league of legends, battleye such as pubg, destiny 2, and rainbow 6 siege, and easy anti cheat such as fortnight blocks virtual machines. I wouldn’t say it’s snake oil for most people because of how cheap it costs to execute a DDoS attack, all it takes is for you to piss off one person for it to be worth it. Although you do not have to use cloudflare there are plenty of other protection services out there.

And a side note, I can’t believe how hard it is to find statistics on how many DDoS attacks have happened that’s not from someone with a vested interest in the matter. I’d figure the FBI/IC3 or CISA would have better statistics on the matter.

Maybe I’m missing something but how could finding out who’s yodeling a movie be rather easy when you would have to decrypt the traffic to determine if it was a movie and not just normal traffic? I get that because of TCP/IP you can tell someone is using I2P but wouldn’t you have to compromise the garlic encryption layer to determine what exactly they are doing?

If they are trying at great leghth to block IPs associated with piracy, it isn’t that much harder to get known VPN IPs blocked too especially when they could use the ‘why won’t someone think of the children’ card and claim VPNs are solely used for CSAM and drug markets.

The smart move would be to skip VPNs and move over to I2P. For those who don’t know I2P is kinda like if tor and torrents had a baby that was a VPN on crack. Unlike a VPN where your traffic is encrypted and sent to one centralized server, I2P encrypts and routes your data through multiple servers and unlike tor every client by default is a node that data can be routed through.

Sorta… If the array was built with hybrid ZFS within unraid which is what the majority of unraid users go with as it allows for better mixing of various sized drives and easier expansion of the array in the future (in other words the main selling points of unraid) then you do not get any of the safety nets ZFS provides as what unraid is essentially doing is making a single drive zfs vdev for each drive in the array. In unraid’s own words “ZFS-formatted disks in Unraid’s array do not offer inherent self-healing protection.”.

FYI you probably shouldn’t be saying you feel really comfortable with your data safety while suggesting unraid. The way unraid handles it’s storage will lead to data loss at some point. Unraid only locks down an array and protects it when smart starts issuing warnings that a drive has failed. Smart isn’t magic though and when a drive starts to die it might start writing garbage data for days if not weeks before smart catches on. If a drive writes garbage for long enough there’s nothing you can do to fix it due to that way unraid handles arrays. This is why ZFS is such a popular option as it treats hard drive with a level of skepticism and verifies the data was actually written correctly along with verifying the data from time to time.

That’s not even mentioning unraid is charging for what other software does for free.
