Is okay to choose A simply because B is quite literally orange hitler?
Obviously yes. Doing so isn’t saying A is fine, doing so is saying B is worse, and bad is still better than worse.
If you tried to say that there was no reason to be concerned with A because B was worse, that’s a fallacy. But acknowledging that one of two options, while still bad, is LESS bad, isn’t a fallacy. That’s just being realistic.
One I see people use frequently and I’m not sure they realize it’s a bad argument is the fallacy of relative privation.
“X is bad. We should do something to fix X.”
“Y is so much worse. I can’t believe you want to fix X when we need to fix Y.”
Both X and Y can be bad and need to be fixed. Fixing one doesn’t preclude fixing the other.
An alternate form of this is:
“A is bad”
“B is worse, so A is fine.”
I was going to recommend this very thing.
Au contraire! As was sung, “I am the one thing in life I can’t control”
Are you referring to Wait For It?
Cause the line is “I am the one thing in life I can control”
Also Burr definitely didn’t “wait for it” when it came to boning down on that British dude’s wife.
Vince Vaughn was perfectly cast for Bad Monkey, IMO. He fit the role well, so he worked well for it.
As an American I used to use a variation of this phrase.
Then I decided to experimentally switch to using Celsius. Took a few weeks/months to really internalize it and stop having to do on-the-fly conversions, but honestly I love it.
It’s remarkable how useful having 0 be freezing is for weather. It makes understanding sub-freezing temperatures much easier. Which also helps reinforce what a degree Celsius means.
I wish other Americans would try it. I haven’t gone back, all my devices are still on Celsius over five years later.
Over half of Zoomers can already vote. Gen Z is roughly 1997-2012.
Unfortunately the younger they are the more likely they are to be conservative it seems. More poisoned by the algorithms.
I would much rather have Camacho as president than Cheeto Benito.
the CAN-SPAM act
I once wrote a community college paper for my friend in exchange for some work on my car. He had to write a paper on the CAN-SPAM act.
I did the assignment, covered all the requirements, explained it and whatnot. I then wrote a SECOND paper, appended to the end of the first. This second paper also met the length requirements, but was a parody. About the Hormel meat product, Spam. In cans. Can-Spam. I was very proud of it. It was funny.
I kept asking my friend if he ever got feedback from the professor. He never did. It was then that I learned professors often don’t read papers like this, they just assign them to get students to read and practice writing. It made me sad.
The Fast and the Furious series.
So dumb. So macho. So entertaining.
You don’t need Lego-level tolerances to at least function with Lego. Look at MegaConstrux (formerly MegaBloks). They’re garbage on tolerances, but they mostly work fine.
I’ve successfully printed 3/4 scale Lego-style bricks to work with a 3/4 scale brick set I have, and using a 0.2mm nozzle they came out great. I can only assume that at full scale they would work just as well.
I love Easter Vigil.
Yeah, in my younger days I got up to ≈210km/h once. I can’t believe I was dumb enough to do that.
At 200km/h, you’re passing the cars around you as quickly as you usually pass stuff stationary by the side of the road. It’s insane.
The car felt planted and controlled, but still. One slightly wrong move and I would’ve been flying off an embankment or killing a fellow motorist.
Qi2 standard really helps with that. It incorporates the magnetic alignment and higher speeds from Apple’s MagSafe. Magnetic alignment makes wireless charging much better. Still less efficient than wired charging, but much more efficient than Qi without magnetic alignment.
If your phone doesn’t have the magnetic ring baked in you can often find cases that provide it, or magnets you can add to the outside of a case. Though my phone does have the magnets baked in, I also have a Snap 4 Luxe and I 3D printed a case that fits around it, to minimize the distance between charger and phone. Works really well!
Bravo. Well done.
LIDAR certainly has enough distance (airplanes use it too)
As I understand it, this is uncommon and mostly used for topological mapping.
Most commercial aircraft use a radar, augmented with a GPS-based terrain map, for their ground proximity warning (EGPWS, “Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System”).
I could be wrong though, I’m not a pilot.
Huhyulk! Goarsh!
The Jira thing has nothing to do with arrogance. That’s just a side note about how much I like working with Germans. 😅
They’re just mad they don’t have any friends or a partner to play it with.
