Fun fact, but the IRS can take away your right to travel by not issuing a passport as well as cancelling a passport if you owe debts. They really like to do this if you owe tax debt.

They also like to cancel your passport while you’re abroad if your debt stacks up. When your passport is cancelled, any visas in the passport are also cancelled. Meaning of you’re living in India, Thailand, Panama, Mexico, whatever on a US passport and they cancel it, you’ll have to leave your new country immediately. As someone with no legitimate travel documents you will be deported to your country (US) immediately, you can’t go anywhere else. This is a fun tactic the US government likes to use instead of extradition.

Everyone should make sure to have more than 1 passport and ideally for countries that do not cooperate fully.

Many telecom operators have a special code that is used for recording. When you’re making a call, you or the other party may press the record button. This will save both the input via microphone and the output via the speakers as one audio file for future use. When you press this button a special code is sent back to the telecom.

Until recently most places in the USA did not do anything with this code. But now it’s catching up to the rest of the world. Once this is pressed, a voice will tell both parties that they are being recorded in the recording. This is so that you can’t later say “I didn’t know they were recording me!” and if you have every-party consent laws, then that recording is illegal so it cannot be used as evidence and the person recording could actually be charged with a crime.

You can start the recording with an accidental face press, pocket press, keypad entry, or a malicious app. If either of you accidentally started it, then there’s your answer. If neither of you did, then most likely one of you is infected or one of you were connected to a relay tower decrypting your calls and then passing them through to a real tower. Whoever was operating this relay station was a n00b idiot though. Both are concerning.

There is no such thing as international waters. China’s exclusive economic zone is one of 17 in the world that cannot be sailed through or flown through without prior authorization and only for peaceful transfer. No “war games” and no deployment of weapons. Just passage with prior authorization.

You try and provoke a response so that the potential combatant airplane and naval vessels make an appearance. Then you capture and study every reflection and image you can to see if they have adapted or changed. Also why the US and China and Russia all fit extra useless bits onto their ships and planes as both decoys and radar signature invalidators. You want your stuff to look as shit as possible visibly and via radar because you’re being spied on.

There’s a fair bit of work. The biggest obstacle is all the random form entries that need to be modified. It’s not like it’s a single central table, it’s the same table copy and pasted a million times. Then for most countries you’d need to add recognition of their passports, their national ID’s, update legislation on whether nationals of that state are afforded certain protections or not certain visa requirements or not, etc. It truly can take years.

In most cases one country becomes two or two become one. In the first case everyone can use the old country on forms and the old country’s rules apply to everyone until changed. In the second case you can use the country your passport was issued from or both or whatever. But there is less of a change.

For Palestine, it’s just poofing into existence. They don’t get passports. They don’t have any existing relations. So I imagine this announcement will take a while to be formalized fully but there will be some interim order that basically says what you need to do manually if you encounter a Palestinian and your automated systems can’t process it.

Any right you think you have is stripped by another law also on the books. You are always and forever in breach of the law. I also used them for years, then everything blocked and deleted instantly. I have other homelab type friends, same thing happened. Again more anecdote vs anecdote. But if you google about hetzner and this type of activity there are bagillions of reddit threads.

After paying them about a grand a month forever, losing all my “safe data” and having to wait a week for even a response that just says “account has suspicious activity. Disabled”. Not a single response after that. And they had the nerve to charge my credit card again at the next payment period. Overall, truly scummy. And I will prevent everyone I can from ever engaging with them.

When hiccups happen, you would hope to be able to at least talk to someone and figure out what’s going on. If they don’t want to keep your business, fine let me get it out privately. But they don’t play that way.

Don’t give anything. It can disqualify you, but this is no different than asking your grandma for her diary before they let her sit a jury.

I use World Stream for many of my storage VPSs. They have pretty cheap servers that can take 14x or 18x drives. So I use their super powerful Epycs plus storage and then they can do an internal LAN only network for your boxes at 10G. 140TB to 200TB per box, connected to the rest of my stuff at 10G.

Their support is opposite of Hetzner. Everything is communicated. It’s almost too much. You get emails that they’re updating the air conditioning unit in a different building. Your downtime is zero. I’ve had some questions on setting up my rack space with them, and engineers respond back, not sales.

You know what sucks? Getting your VPS shut off or account suspended. All your data gone in an instant, not recoverable. You don’t have access to the metal, and the metal no longer has access to you.

Hetzner is known for randomly boinking accounts. You update billing info? Whoops maybe shutoff. You login via a VPN, account disabled. Just randomly for no reason, account locked and VPS down.

You have basically zero recourse. Their support staff suck and the immediate reaction is suspend and delete. NEVER use them for anything you don’t consider temporary.

You ever drown or wipe out an ant colony? Take down a wasps nest? Swat away the hoards of mosquitos annoying you?

That’s genocide but they aren’t what you would consider equals as a human. I’m aware some super vegan froo froos, do. But anyways. Your ability to genocide an entire village of beings you don’t consider equal is where most of these feelings come from.

It’s also why the playbook, heavily updated by Hitler in the past, and Israel today, say that’s an important step. Dehumanize your enemy.
