Do you mean manipulation from the admins? Because from the spammers perspective not being able to see if your votes went through is pretty inconvenient
What is pt?
Also, amazing story and glad that you’re doing better
Varoufakis (Marxist econ professor and also briefly the Greek finance minister) wrote a book about this called “the adults in the room”. He’s biased of course but I respect him a lot
Yes I’m just saying that if the sides (even if they are enemies like Russia/NATO) are not interested in going to war, they will tolerate isolated incidents. even with casualties. This isn’t something unique to the america-israel relationship

Do you mean that oopsie with the USS Liberty? That kind of thing happens occasionally but cooler heads prevail as long as everyone communicates. There was also an incident when a Turkish f-16 (Turkey being a NATO member) shot down a Russian su-24, but nobody went to war over it.
knowing how government institutions work I’d also assume they can’t get the libraries to switch to a new program
Not defending Stalin but words like opportunist mean things. Remind me when did Stalin support a bourgeois state waging an imperialist war
Unfortunately in Russia there are a lot of opportunists who call themselves communists
Do what the article says, Make like Russia in LDNR and send in “volunteers on leave” to help out the Ukrainians. The breakaway republics would never have held out this long without Russian volunteers.
Ok wtf. How are you supposed to even enforce that, nevermind that there seems to be no enforcement mechanism for anything in the treaty, but economic coercion is just an inherent part of relations under capitalism.
The way i remember it, in mid-late 2022 there was bipartisan support in Congress for sending more and more advanced arms but the Biden admin slow-rolled it because of escalation fears.
This book review (never got around to reading the book itself) made me understand why people think “it’s tradition” is a valid explanation at least sometimes. I disagree still but i couldn’t find any counterarguments.

iirc Friedman changed his mind about the welfare state later in life
The actual incentive is money. Army service pays so much more than average salary in the underdeveloped/depressed regions (kinda like in the US actually)
Can someone less lazy than me explain how it’s functionally different from sharing images on e.g. mastodon?
Just block the bot if you don’t like it
Yes and it’s fucked up that wannabe dictator erdogan was able to use NATO accession to force Sweden to hand over Kurdish “terrorist” activists they were sheltering. As an American our support for the kurds is one of the few military involvements I am sort of proud of
Same for Azerbaijan, aliyev is a dictator who will keep attacking Armenia to “defend azeri enclaves stranded in hostile territory”, but in reality he just thinks he deserves the whole thing because armenia is not a real nation and would be better off run by Azerbaijan. Just like Hitler with his volksdeutch and Putin with his persecuted Russian minorities in the near abroad. To quote the mayor of baku during a visit to Germany, ‘‘Our goal is the complete elimination of Armenians. You, Nazis, already eliminated the Jews in the 1930s and 40s, right? You should be able to understand us.’’ https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CHRG-110hhrg43066/pdf/CHRG-110hhrg43066.pdf
The only reason Armenia allied with Russia is because the EU was horny for energy trade with Azerbaijan and armenia had nowhere else to go, they have a somewhat uniquely unfortunate geopolitical situation. However Putin just kinda hates democracy so he started slowly withdrawing support after the Armenian revolution
Meanwhile turko-azeri relations are about the friendliest you can get without actually merging :) they both really love genociding armenians what can I say.
