Manjaro Linux. It has treated me well for two years. (Yes, I know about the controversy, I have had no problems with the distro for the last two years).
Mereo is a sociologist who is also a nerd. He believes in open-source software.
I transferred to this instance from https://lemmy.world. My previous profile: https://lemmy.world/u/Mereo

Voyager. It’s an Apollo like client.
I think we are now in a positive cycle:
Windows 7. And I would hope for the mighty superhero penguin Linux to save me.
That’s why the French protest all the time. They fight for their rights.
A lot of people were given false hope that Brexit would magically solve all their problems. People now regret it.
Ottawa’s city council declared the city as the ‘Shawarma Capital of Canada’. I think these goats will serve the city well. The news: https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/ottawa-is-the-shawarma-capital-of-canada-council-declares-1.6830648
Dude or Dudette, you’ve plenty of choice. If you don’t want to pay for the software, no problem! Download an open-source app. Problem solved!
It is logical. With open source software, the source code is out there for everyone to see how user data is being handled. But with closed source, you can’t, it’s a black box, so you have to trust the developer on how user data is handled.
From the book Napoléon, l’esclavage et les colonies (Napoleon, slavery and the colonies) https://a.co/d/0gaXPow
One should read the history of Haiti. They were the first slaves to revolt and become free, so France wanted them to pay for “lost business”. So they had to pay off a huge debt. And the U.S. didn’t want Haiti to succeed because it would have encouraged slaves in the U.S. to revolt. So Haiti got roadblock after roadblock.

Not a good comparison. With Steam, you download the games to your computer. If Valve ever went out of business, they could unDRM the games, or you could crack them.
Either way, you download the games onto your computer. That’s not the case with Funimation.
Buying a digital copy of something you cannot download is an oxymoron. It only makes sense if you subscribe to a service.
It’s good to be a Canadian :)
Run them in Bottle, then disable internet access for the games.
Also, check if your instance has a Status page and bookmark it.
That is the beauty of the Fediverse. If you don’t like how an instance is run, you can easily switch to another instance in Lemmy 0.19. We need to think of Lemmy instances as countries with their own laws, culture, and policies. So in my opinion, if you don’t like how an instance is run, you can easily switch to another instance.

I think the professor himself is fed up with the situation, because as a researcher he is forced to publish his articles to for-profit publishers, who are basically the mafia gatekeepers, who profit from information that should be open to everyone. And the university profits from this lucrative business.
This Youtube video will open your eyes to this business: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKiBlGDfRU8
