I use Ecosia (which uses Bing results) and it seems decent, although I haven’t used Google or DDG in a while so I can’t compare.
I like NixOS

Born in 2004, I barely used the internet as a kid. Most my video games were off of CDs, and I occasionally got to use my dad’s Steam account. In like 4th grade I played some Wizards101, League of Legends, and some flash games, and started watching Minecraft youtubers. Besides that I mostly used the internet to download Minecraft mods. I kinda eased into the internet that way so I never really was surprised at having so much accessible to me.
I didn’t get on social media until I got on Reddit in high school. I tried Tumblr a bit but didn’t like it since it was too different. I still don’t use Twitter or anything, just Reddit and Lemmy and occasionally Pinterest.
You could use yt-dlp to download the videos / channels / playlists you want to save, although they wouldn’t be available online.
Jerboa doesn’t support it, it’s just unformatted text
Yes, every video you download or stream is actually compressed quite a lot, the bitrate just determines how much compression is applied. Higher bitrate means the file is bigger and less compression is done, while low bitrate means the video has a lot less bits to store all that data and so has to do more compression.
These aren’t browser games, but could still be fun.
I used to play Battle for Wesnoth a lot as a kid, both with my dad and by myself, and as it’s turn-based it should run fine on a raspberry pi.
OpenTTD could be fun, although it may be a little complicated depending on how old they are. It’s not very difficult in terms of challenge though, it’s more of a sandbox once you get past a certain point. There’s also sandbox options to give yourself lots of money if you didn’t want to worry about money and just build cool trains and stuff.
I used to play a lot of Supreme Commander with my dad as well, so maybe something similar like Beyond All Reason or ZeroK could work if they take an interest to that kind of game. I haven’t tried them though.
Gamescope generally helps with alt+tab issues.
How is Backpack Hero by the way? I played the demo years ago and liked it but haven’t bought the actual game yet.
I’ve heard you can say “octopodes” as well
On Lemmy you can sort by top day in a community, idk if you can open up mastodon hashtags through Lemmy or not
I get caught up on Subscribed - New and make sure I’ve seen everything, and then if I’m still bored I’ll go to All - Top Day or 12 hour, and then if I’ve seen most of those I go down to Top 6 hour
It was really cool seeing comments and upvotes change in real time, but I understand it was buggy and terrible for server performance and I’m glad it’s better and more stable now.
Maybe it only says that if the deleted comment has replies?
Yggdrasil? Meshtastic? IPFS? Briar? All sound pretty cool, not sure if we have a community for those things yet.
