There’s an Andy Warhol print of a photograph of a body hanging out of the window a crashed ambulance.
Gentle nerd freak of the pacific northwest. All nation states are vermin.
There’s an Andy Warhol print of a photograph of a body hanging out of the window a crashed ambulance.
This is great news considering that my boss is a dickhead.
I very much agree that copyright is a tool to protect the wealth of the rich.
But I think the idea of restricting access to knowledge in order to benefit a select few predates capitalism. The ancient Chinese state iron and salt monopoly is the first example that comes to mind, some Greek mystery cults probably count too, even if we don’t think of that knowledge as beneficial now.
I’d guess it’s a common feature of strongly elite-dominated societies, of which capitalism is just the current model.
There’s a metal identification tag that goes with the body the entire time it’s in the funeral home/crematorium, according to my partner who works at one. It gets taped to the outside of the urn.
That’s not foolproof though, the wrong ashes getting released to someone is rare but is usually easy to spot afterwards.
There’s no way for you to 100% guarantee that the ashes are your loved one, except that there’s no strong benefit to a crematorium doing that and heads would roll if they did.
There have been scandals where pets were cremated in bulk then the combined ashes divvied out, but not humans.
Your link is just to this post, but after searching I believe you’re talking about Lia Thomas. That’s a single example so not necessarily representative.
"FACT: Trans athletes do not have an unfair advantage in sports.”
"After one year of hormone therapy, trans women performed better in sports than cis women. After two years, their performance was largely equalized.”
“…finding that trans women athletes are at a relative disadvantage in many key physical areas relating to athletic ability… than their cisgender counterparts.”
Yep, the “fairness” argument is a transparent figleaf for intentional persecution.
My understanding is that there is absolutely no evidence that trans women have an advantage. Once hormone therapy has been going for a while performance shows no statistical difference from women assigned female at birth. I was listening to a report on the radio just yesterday.
Additionally the number of trans athletes is incredibly small.
I’ve heard that the greatest correlation with Olympic medal tally is the amount of state funding for sports and sport sciences. If we’re going to asterisk any records, it should probably be for everyone from wealthy countries.
As an Australian living in the northern hemisphere I avoid both christmas and anything that reminds me of home.
A fair point. I would guess closer to 10% than 1% or 100% also have a foreign language page. I’d guess between 1-10% of those english language pages are non-english speakers.
But that’s 1.1M living people with english language wikipedia pages, right?
I think a better comparison figure would be the ~1.5B english speakers or the ~400M native english speakers. So 0.073% or 0.275%.
Much more achievable.
LLMs have far more going on than lemmy will admit, and we have far less going on than we think.
Yes and yes and especially yes on the last bit.
People just massively overestimate what goes on in a brain, I think. It’s not magic. Consciousness, experience and understanding feel ineffable but they’re just chemicals and electricity.
There’s no divine and irreproducible spark, no reason that silicon and metal couldn’t produce a system that does everything a brain does.
Under your system republicans would just send everyone who voted democrat to death camps.
At least with a secret ballot they can only do that to everyone they think voted against them.
It’s an incredibly impressive feat, many will be glad to know the beaver is available.
Cosmetic injustices like this are an intentional distraction from the regime’s attempts to steal all public funds, kill Americans who need Medicaid, continue their ethnic cleansing campaign at home and support Israel and Russia’s ongoing genocides.
It’s also important to remember that non-violence serves the interest of entrenched power. The state is at its core a violence-control structure. When people excersize the power of violence in their own interests, the state must reassert it’s dominion or risk collapse.
Non-violent requests can be accommodated without elites feeling like their ill-gotten power is threatened. But it’s often the violent demands that scare them into doing so.
a unique quality to the feeling of it’s drive
I have to admit I’m skeptical, and not just because it sounds written by a marketing team.
Things like the subjective feeling of something are strongly socially determined. When we’re told something is fancy or high quality we have a different and better experience of that thing.
As humans it’s rarely possible to separate our experience of a thing from our judgements of the people and identities we associate with it.
the deputy marshal “fit the general description of a subject being sought by ICE.”
100% chance the description was “Mexican”.
Choosing the source then the destination is the correct order. The money moves from X to Y, of course you should choose X first and then Y. Destination then source feels inherently wrong to me too
