The problem with asking others how the heck they regulate without drugs is that they’re not you. They don’t have your brain or your hormones.

No solution from someone without the problem is likely to work and most people with the problem do not have a solution.

My first was RIFTS, which i did not have the stomach for at all. By comparison cyberpunk and cybergen ran like a dream, just as my friends and I were getting into Akira.

I never tried the Bab5 rpg, but i stayed up late with my mother to watch it. I was shocked when rewatching a few years back to see lucille blooth playing a regime loyalist captain.

Yeah i’m 43 but i got really frustrated with 2e era rules and moved on to cyberpunk, white wolf and gurps within a year or two of starting the hobby.

By the time 3e came out i was just not interested in fantasy rpgs anymore.

Since you seem to’ve been exposed to rpgs from birth, basically, you might count as slightly older in RPG-years than your real age? 😅

Probably encumberance, almost certainly the single most ignored rule in rpgs.

But honorable mention goes to old school AC/THAC0 - the mechanics were originally for modern-era battleship game where armor class referred to size. Using the smallness of boats to model the defensive power of better armor was never going to produce sensible results. THAC0 was always unweildy at the table, slowed play, and turned combat into a chorus of “uggghhhh does a 13 hit?” “Ugh… no.”

The only way your spouse could be correct is if you’re still playing 2e and you’re under 50.

Often people in authority will see injustice and respond as if the real problem was that everyone else disturbed them, failing to even attempt to actually understand the situation first.

This is because power has been shown to cause changes in the brain that make you less capable of empathy.

For. Real. I recently remembered that I have one, which doubled my coffee intake so I’ve been trying to hold back.

Usually coffee. Plunger, at least a pot. Otherwise it’s pretty evenly split between vegemite toast, taiwanese green onion pancakes from trader joe’s, or maybe a bagel, granola, shakshuka or left over takeout.

I grew up outside the country though, hence not being a fan of us style drip coffee which always taste like hay to me.

For me, I just accept it. I ride the wave of motivation whether it takes me to the epic gaming session I’d hoped for or a bunch of menial tasks and low impact internet comments.

Sometimes what I think I want to do isn’t what my body is going to end up doing, and that’s just how life be.

I’d think that a “hey, I noticed this weird thing, is that you delisting or is yt being shady?” type communication would be appreciated and help flesh out the picture.

Yeah I don’t think “being yourself” is a thing that anyone has to worry about. You can only ever be yourself.

As you point out, we’re social mammals. We always exist in a social context and the behaviors that benefit us are highly dependent on that context.

It’s also perfectly natural for our identities to change over time. We don’t “discover the real me” we adopt new identities that benefit us more. That’s just how being a human is.
