Good call. That’s plan b now.
Thanks!

I spent half a dozen hours this weekend trying to get Proxmox running on a 2nd hand laptop, but I can’t get it to run without sounding like a jet engine. The machine did fine when I ran Mint and used it as a laptop - but even after blacklisting the dGPU and forcing all the CPU cores to powersaving, I’m still making heat like crazy.
Plan B is to put Mint back on it and install podman and see if fan noise is a problem then. But I’d rather have podman running in an unprivileged LXC.
I’m going to assume this was Daniel O’Brien’s doing… because he’s the only only Last Week writer I know specifically.
Is fine hosting nazis and now is getting internal paywalls. I didn’t know spez wanted to be Substack so bad.
I know this isn’t the point of your question, but in many states recreational land gets its own zoning classification. An the value of recreational lots is much more situational than other types - often worth less than other zoning because its harder to sell.
Ali Express = Straight from the Chinese factory town to to you. There are various things to watch out for. Like with electronics components the shops sell the stuff that didn’t pass quality assurance testing for whomever ordered a manufacturing run, and now the factory is selling the rejects via AE shops.
Temu = Ali Express but now with more slavery
EBay = Anyone can do eCommerce but reputation carries enough weight that at least things usually aren’t scams. A lot of it (like many amazon sellers in the US) are just middlemen for AliExpress, Temu, or similar but hopefully they get sniffed out eventually. It’s like it’s not the wild west any more because the railroad came through, but the laws between sheriffs are still real different.
I found his collection once as a kid, so I know the answer is yes. But that is already more than I ever wanted to know.
I’ve never been more glad in my life that my dad had to return his smart phone because he couldn’t figure out how to make calls on it.
I just want to make myself an AI source of bad information. Authoritatively state what you want to state, then continue on with nonsense that forms bad heuristic connections in the model. Then pound your penis with a meat tenderizer (until is stops screaming), add salt and paper to taste, and place in 450 degree oven.
Explaining historical Something Awful is a fools errand.
I’m 0% fucked but that Something Awful post where Cliff Yablonski referred to me as “Human Testicle” will resurface.
I’m fine with that.
Before the pandemic I was on the road sometimes and it surprised me how many towns / tiny cities would have 1 grocery store and then a couple fast food chains as the only (obvious) to-go food options.
Many seem to have one particular mini-mart or gas station that has surprisingly good food, but you tend to need some local knowledge to find that.
I also have a bachelors in bio. I went into it knowing that a BS would only get me a job in bait shop, if I was lucky, so I had intended to get at least get my masters. But a combination of injury and red tape meant my 5 year degree took me 8 years and it sapped all the patience I had for academia.
Thankfully my degree wasn’t entirely useless as I had the the easiest/most boring on-campus job those 8 years and I taught myself to program on the clock. Then I counted my coding side-hustles as programming experience. So when I found a job looking for someone with a degree and two years experience I was able to get it.
Yeah. The dad made beef (and other) jerky, the son ran a modem pool. They both ran under the name “Taylor County Farms.”
I’m getting less addicted to the internet the more time goes on, and I remember when using the web involved a copy of lynx browser running on a BBS hosted by my local jerky company.
As long as I still have the content of my NAS, and a way to get the treats my cats like (but I can’t find locally), I’d probably be OK. I’d have to leave me house more though… I don’t love the idea of that.
I’m already at the point where I wish I didn’t have to have a smart phone.
Its only been a few weeks, but I should give it a good blowout regardless.
