Homebox can track simple maintenance against assets.

Definitely this, especially if you’ll be sharing with a non techie. My wife was able to pick 1password up and use it immediately and she normally turns her nose up at any of my recommendations.
For the 1password accounts 2FA, use a yubikey or aegis. Everything else to 1 password.

Out of curiosity, what has been your experience on noise and power consumption with your r220 and r240 servers?

Funny you should say that! If I was still over in that part of the country I’d absolutely take you up. There is a local used IT shop near me and I was really excited to purchase some of those for a good deal. Then found out that they only update their online inventory when you click add to cart. Long story short, the prices were too good to be true and they didn’t have any left in stock.

I’m trying to find a reasonably priced used rack mount computer to move all my containers to. I have a rack in my house but measuring the depth between posts only gets me around 17.5". Recently deployed paperless-ngx and decided it would be too much to add onto my poor little NAS which hosts everything else so its deployed on my main computer and I want to avoid that strategy.
Challenge is that being new to rack servers and all of this (the NAS was a great intro box) I’ve got a large learning curve ahead of me.

Appreciate everyone’s help. What I ended up doing was moving to porkbun as I (a) saved money with some of the whois privacy items, (b) got free SSL certificates, and © it worked with the automated certbot tie in with Nginx-Prox-Manager. I did confirm I could manually load certs into Nginx but have very limited time at the moment and this seemed like a straightforward path.
Certainly the proposals for self-hosted DNS servers are interesting and something I may experiment with in the future but times limited at the moment. Now I’m just working out why Jellyfin and Photoprism work perfectly but homebox doesn’t want to work with the domain name. Another round of learning begins!

My internal network is blocked off from the internet and I’m not actually planning to enable tailscale for VPN in (my understanding of its purpose). This is really just so I can use sub domains like ‘homebox.mydomain.space’ to access and get a registered SSL certificate to switch all internal over. I’m not using the duckdns that Wolfgang did because I already registered a good custom domain that I use for my e-mail.

I’ve found the windows one sorely lacking. As I recall all windows of a specific program have to be on a single desktop. This causes issues if you are working on multiple word docs, browser windows, or even just want access to email in both desktops. AFAIK there isn’t a work around to this. Am I out of the loop on a nice windows feature?

Highly dependent on workplace. Many with govt contracts could feel an obligation to punish this.

Where did you get those socks?!

We use a Neato Botvac Connected (it’s an older model) and the eco mode is quiet enough that we can run it at night. I’m an exceptionally light sleeper and it has worked for me. If we are leaving the house for a while I set it to turbo and that’s loud but cleans even better.
Highly recommend Neato. I think we’ve had ours for 7 or 8 years at this point.

At the beginning of the pandemic people didn’t know much about COVID and did whatever they could to keep safe. Especially in high risk households. As better research became available many of the approaches such as wiping down groceries got used less.

I’ve used h2owireless in the past for overseas visitors and it’s worked well.
Jokes on you. Lumberg is my porn preference.
