Feel like these days it’s “do unto others what you imagine others would to do unto you.”

I’m building services out for my family as things enshittify. Moved the family over to an immich instance, run a family blog on Wordpress (working on rolling my own since it’s over complicated and with all the Wordpress shenanigans…), plex (lifetime account, works for now). I have a number of self-built projects as well, a “momboard” like system that is integrated with my Wordpress blog for access and control, a pi based backup server that lives at my friends house and nails a VPN connection to my router and I’m playing with Meshtastic as an offline communication system for my kids scout troop when we’re camping without cell signal. Lots of home automation with home assistant as well.

I host it all on Debian servers, raspberry pi’s and esp32 devices (Meshtastic and home automation). I used to run kubernoodles but it was more complicated than needed and for my use case, docker, ansible and bash scripts manage it all just fine.

I would say it just failed. I’m sorry but a system that elects a rapist, a 34 times convicted felon, one who defrauds students, cages children, takes away human rights, praises nazi’s and dictators, and this was just the first term. I’m sorry but by any metric I care to meaure it by this is a failed experiment.

I used to make the same arguments but I’m middle aged now, have been supporting the left, volunteering, knocking on doors, donating, etc. for over 20 years now; but in all that time, shit has only gotten worse. I’m saddened every day what I’m leaving my children and it makes me feel awful to know that they will be fighting all the same fights I have and even more. I’m definitely no turnip supporter but I no longer believe that there will be any functional difference regardless of who wins. The ship is going down no matter who is captaining.

I would hold my nose and vote once again but even the best possible outcome is still a shit sandwich I’m not willing to take another bite of. So, I’m out, and yes, I do know that’s what they want, I just don’t care anymore.

yeah, this one has broken me, there’s no way I can support anyone who’s currently running. I’ll probably write in myself which I know is a waste but I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter anyway. we get to choose between genocide and the death of the nation, or take the comedy option on the guy who drove his wife to suicide while high on heroin to, I don’t know, give the brainworms something to do while dying of mercury poisoning…

Wife and I still go every valentines day. Started as a joke since they do the place up but everyone is so sweet and we’ve now got kids who wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.

You are right, and I apologize again. Once again through I will say, while it came from an (admittedly self centered) American point of view, there’s plenty of other places that it could have just as easily come from.

Oh, I know, speaking in euphemisms. Maybe I should have said half the electorate (which I know is still not completely accurate). Point is, there is a real chance he gets elected and if so, we’re fucked. I’m not taking chances by downplaying the danger.

and half this country wants to see these kind of headlines coming from ours. 😢
