Some of the “open” models seem to have augmented their training data with OpenAI and Anthropic requests (I. E. they sometimes say they’re ChatGPT or Claude). I guess that may be considered piracy. There are a lot of customer service bots that just hook into OpenAI APIs and don’t have a lot of guardrails, so you can do stuff like ask a car dealership’s customer service to write you Python code. Actual piracy would require someone leaking the model.

I’m unfamiliar with that delivery uniform, maybe it’s another country’s postal service, but the USPS has had a kind of “higher purpose” associated with it. E.g.

The Postal Service shall have as its basic function the obligation to provide postal services to bind the Nation together through the personal, educational, literary, and business correspondence of the people. Lol. Bad joke. What I was getting at is people used to hang out at bars and drink more (alcohol use was worse). More generally, it’s a lack of third places and car-based city design. More, and more engaging in-home entertainment/Internet also probably plays a part. Though, it’s probably not a completely new phenomenon either, judging from art like Taxi Driver, Catcher In The Rye, etc. So, toxic or even plain masculinity likely makes it harder to make and keep close friends.

I’d bet female loneliness is also rising in modern society as well, due to modern phenomenon. Humans didn’t evolve to live like we are. We used to mostly live in small, close-knit tribes.

The RTO push is designed to keep the commercial real-estate market from crashing. I’ve never seen any good proof of this, but believe it. I don’t exactly know why CEOs of big companies would really care that much about commercial real-estate. Perhaps their large shareholders (hedge fund managers?) also own commercial real-estate and are putting pressure on CEOs? Perhaps at that level it’s just a big club, and all the wealthy just help eachother out, out of solidarity? Dunno.

Most politicians seem like grifters and change positions to whatever is popular with their base or donors though. So, it does seem like this is a part of some grand-plan. I don’t think many Republican politicians actually care about women’s sports or who uses which restroom, yet they manufacture outrage and campaign on it. This kind of stuff was on no “normal” person’s mind before media started focusing on it.

Restaurants often do get first-pick, but it’s probably just because the producers or distributors can make more money selling to them rather than the grocery store. I.e. just another feature of capitalism. This happens with a lot of things, such as home builders and furniture makers getting first-pick on lumber. Now that I think back to when I used to work in fabrication, steel as well.

Yeah, torrents usually run 100-300KiB/s. I guess not too bad for smaller files. About an hour or three per GB.

I mean, you can be sued for anything, but it will get thrown out. Like, I guess the MPAA could offer a movie for download, then try to sue the first hop they upload a chunk to, but that really doesn’t make any sense (because they offered it for download in the first place). Furthermore, the first hop(s) aren’t the people that are using the file, and they can’t even read it. If people could successfully sue nodes, then ISPs and postal services could be sued for anything that passes through their networks.

Onion-like routing. It takes multiple hops to get to a destination. Each hop can only decrypt the next destination to send the packet to (i.e. peeling off a layer of the onion).

For the things you mentioned, the vegan and gluten-free options are processed much more. Beef, for example, is arguably a “whole food.”

Gluten-free isn’t healthier unless you have specific conditions. Most people can handle gluten fine, and some vegan foods are primarily gluten (such as seitan).

Vegan isn’t inherently healthy, especially if your eating mostly processed foods. A primarily whole-food vegan diet is likely healthier and cheaper than most people’s diets though.

I’ve recently been trying out Tribler, and it’s much faster than the last time I tried it (I’ve seen 2MB/s on popular torrents, but around 500kB/s on less popular). Not sure if there are simply more exit nodes with more bandwidth now or if there are more people on the Tribler network seeding.
