People here need to realize that 90% of the microbloggers don’t give a fuck about decentralization or FOSS. They want something that works and doesn’t force them into a ketamine fuled nazi oligarchy delirium. Mastodon doesn’t work for normal people. It kind of works if you’re a FOSS nerd or some kind of fediverse idealist. (It works for me, because it doesn’t drag me into endless flame wars and I’m almost only following FOSS accounts).
My experience with Lemmy is that it is much more functional as in “Reddit replacement”. There are of course super few users, but it feels active and engaging (for better or worse). So in theory, maybe it could be a replacement.
But Mastodon has never been a “Twitter replacement”. It feels more like a fancy RSS client. Search, feeds and interactions just doesn’t work very well.
Well, then just change the question. Should it be legal?
Well, my guess is that there wouldn’t have been a WW1 if nukes were present. Also, there wouldn’t have been a WW1 (as we know it) if pre-war leaders had known it would be a trench war of attrition.
Also, WW3 would probably have been a reality if nukes weren’t present.
I love how all these elitist fucktards are dismissing the countless number of people who claim that LLMs help them with their daily tasks.
I wonder if they also tell people wearing eyeglasses to stop cheating and learn how to appreciate the tools that was given to them by God… After all, these people probably also tried wearing eyeglasses and found them useless and limiting.
It has replaced Google for me. Or rather, first I use the LLM (Mistral Large or Claude) and then I use Google or specific documentation as a complement. I use LLMs for scripting (it almost always gets it right) and programming assistance (it’s awesome when working with a language you’re not comfortable with, or when writing boilerplate).
It’s just a really powerful tool that is getting more powerful every other week. The ones who differs simply hasn’t tried enough, are superhumans or (more likely) need to get out of their comfort zone.
Good timing. https://youtu.be/xSnZLWjOkHU
I believe that with the new US administration (and US popular opinion), one could go from good terms to bad over night. I would not trust that the US adhere to article 5 if things become serious for real. Why should they start a nuclear war just because their semi-friend forces itself upon a woke central European country? Things were completely different during the cold War.
Best thing you can do is to not fucking participate.
What if that’s not an option? It could for sure be rational for a violent actor to force it’s will on a non-voilent one. One only needs one rotten apple and the Nash equilibrium dissolves.
Good luck using them unless you’re allowed to. Might be an option if you have a couple of months. Though you would have to defend against two nuclear powers during that time.
Also good luck using your US made jets and critical components.
One should never trust the Danes.
One does not have to invade. Make them a puppet by using credible threats (they aren’t credible ATM). Do as we say or we fuck you up basically. Maybe blow of a nuke in the Baltic sea, close to the German coast, to show them one is serious.
Fair point.
But what should one do if one has a neighbor who constantly threatens with nuclear annihilation and who doesn’t respect anyone who’s not also a nuclear power? Just give in? I feel that we’re no longer in a Nash equilibrium.
And what happens if Le Pen wins the next election?
And what if the orange man and his friend Putin differs?
Mastodon simply is a different thing than X/Bluesky. It’s more like RSS/Blog/IRC. It will never go mainstream unless they add (opt out) algorithms and a better search functionality. But maybe that’s just not worth it. Mastodon has already lost to Bluesky when it comes to being an open mainstream Twitter replacement.
I’m curious about if it’s even technically possible to build something federated that feels like a Twitter replacement, using the ActivityPub protocol.
